Health negotiators told to put sovereignty ahead of stopping pandemics
Ahead of the latest round of negotiations to agree on a new global Pandemic Treaty and an update to international health rules, the Government gave diplomats a new negotiating mandate which downplayed the importance of preventing pandemics.
Documents released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade show the previous government’s “overarching goal of pursuing rules that help prevent and mitigate future acute public health events” was replaced with a direction to “preserve domestic flexibility” including the ability to opt out of international health rules.
While the new mandate did still direct negotiators to “seek international rules with clear and practical prevention measures to address situations where significant risks of pandemic threats may arise, particularly in countries where humans live in close contact with wild animals”, it used softer language. The negotiating position agreed under Labour sought “an approach where states are required” to take measures to identify, prevent and control the spread of infectious diseases.

NZ First tries to introduce controversial bathroom bill
New Zealand First is introducing its controversial Fair Access to Bathrooms Bill to Parliament today.
The bill would require all new non-domestic publicly accessible buildings provide separate, clearly demarcated, unisex and single sex bathrooms.
If passed, it would also introduce a fine, “for anyone who uses a single-sex toilet and is not of the sex for which that toilet has been designated”.
…to stay over 5%, NZ First are held hostage by the Conspiracy Swamp Kingdom, so much so they are willing to implement feral anti-vaxx nonsense like not signing the latest WHO legislation and this crazy Trans hate garbage.

In the alternate reality of Claire Trevett, Shane Jones is a working class hero who is driving the Fast Track powers because he’s a working class lad who is harvesting culture war grievance for votes.
In a totally different alternate reality that has no defamatory connection to this reality, NZ Fist are ramming the Fast Track Powers through because certain key members went into private consultancies after getting kicked out of office with the very donor industries who are now about to get all these amazing regulatory deals, and dropped those private consultancies when they got sworn into office and their demand in ramming through these Fast Track Powers has nothing to do with creating jobs and everything to do with those private consultancies.
In both dimensions NZ First are a toxic greedy tumour that will bring down this Government.

According to your linked report, the focus on sovereignty in the mandate came despite a Cabinet paper noting there were no proposals to erode sovereignty.
Therefore, if there are no proposals to erode sovereignty, protecting our sovereignty shouldn’t be an issue.
According to the Cabinet paper, giving up sovereignty to the WHO would be unacceptable to nearly all member states.
So our position seems to align with nearly all other member states.
Why should we ever cede what remains of our national sovereignty to an unelected and unaccountable organisation like the WHO? It’s not for those who want to retain our sovereignty to argue why we should retain it, it’s for those who want to give away our sovereignty to make the case for why we should.

In other words, the whole idea that WHO is some sort of secret world organisation seeking to take over the planet, is total bullshit. Only a tin foil hatted conspiracy nut job would assert otherwise.
Nah, this is antivaxxer propaganda at its worst. With 98% of NZ vaccinated, the 2% are wanting to impose their nutjob theories on the other 98%. That’s not democracy, that’s insanity. For a political party in power, to use its leverage to impose minority views on the majority, is nothing less than fascism of the worst kind.
As for “toilet gender police”, in a country with our level of poverty, there are a thousand better ways to spend taxes.
This is the least of NZF’s problems. The WHO has historically been far too responsive to American influence operations- just look at how they’re now ignoring the massive spread of bird flu among US cattle, which should be responded to with a worldwide ban on US cattle exports if not a blockade on Americans themselves- and should be replaced by an organization that is entirely protected from American influence.
