Nuclear war threats and Nazi rallies? That’s 205 days of President Trump

Nuclear war threats with North Korea and Nazi rallies in Charlottesville? That’s the 205 day legacy of Trump so far, and these two new low points have to be appreciated against a back drop of a Presidency that has redefined low points.

Trump’s dangerous revenge fantasies fuelled by a thin skinned violent narcissism was always going to be a danger to internal and external stability for America but not even critics could have foreseen just how disastrous Trump would have turned out to be.

His inability to get Health Care through despite Republican domination should send a terrible warning sign that Trump could soon discard the hollow husk that is the Republican Party for his own brand of unbridled fascism.

He didn’t denounce the Nazi’s in Charlottesville because those are the supporters he intends to turn to when the chips are really down on his Presidency.

Trump is building a third electorate, alienated culturally and broken economically by Democrats and Republicans and fuelled on racist radicalism. All he needs now is some external threat to manipulate and demand total obedience from.

We are watching the building of a tyrant who shows contempt for Democracy and the values that underpin it.

To date the only straw Trump has left to clutch is that the American economy is bullishly charging along because of reforms and policies introduced by Obama and a stock market who believe he will pass massive tax reforms. If Trump’s inability to get health care reform passed is anything to go by, that stock market charge will turn to stock market collapse once the fiction of those tax cuts getting passed is realised.

If the stock market crashes, the reality of the economic pain will bite Trump’s supporters first and he will need to find a scape goat to demonise when it does.

Trump is a growing danger to America and the planet.

  1. You have a fanciful view of the power Trump is able to exercise Martyn.
    He is having his teeth pulled one by one , and the Republican party far from being at risk of being discarded, are teaming up with the Democrats to erode the power of any future US president in order to weaken him.
    He isn’t doing a great job of diplomacy but with North Korea continuing to develop their nuclear deterant any US administration is bound to react.
    Just what they will or should do about it is an open question, but Trump’s bluster isn’t likely to be very different from any other US president in the circumstances.
    But he has nothing like the power you attribute to him.

    1. David, you under-estimate Trump’s INFLUENCE (even if his power is waning, as you suggest). By his own rhetoric he is emboldening the Amerikan far-right. More people will be injured or killed before that lunatic is impeached and removed from the White House.
