  1. I bet they dont poll in south auckland or Bader in hamilton or other working class areas of the motu .They probably dont ask a lot of women workers either .

    1. You need to except Labour did such a bad job of running the country when in complete power that they will not win until they ditch their current leader and come up with a new plan . At the moment Labour is only slightly different to National and the thought of TPM and Greens getting power is another put off. In Clark’s time they were a force to be reconned with but not now.

      1. I think you are onto something Trev – and these numbers prove you right:
Right now, thanks to this government careful stewardship and economic management smarts we have economic growth 0% (and contracting) and unemployment 5.5% (and rising). Under ‘Big G’ (Grant Robertson) – we had economic growth 5% and unemployment (a record low) 3%.
I’m still angry with Labour about all that economic growth and employment – those absolute idiots – how did they get away with it for so long?
Thank God we’ve got the country ‘back on track’ in NZ – petty, narrow minded, ignorant, weak and increasingly irrelevant.

        1. That’s only the start of it, they stupidly kept the majority of businesses alive AND stopped thousands dying, completely incompetent bunch of lefty losers. We need to keep firing public servants and losing thousands every day to Australia until we see some real growth …and hopefully unemployment back to a healthy 10%!

      2. Trevor your comment has been made to look embarrassing by multiple posters.

      3. Trevor you should answer Clive’s question. How did Labour do worse? They didn’t borrow more money despite all the bullshit messaging from liars like Luxon and Willis. Conservative economists have pointed out what absolute bullshitters these two are. Labour didn’t have as much unemployment, prices haven’t come down, and Labours social housing policy which was a disaster relative to the promises was light years more effective than what we have now. Let’s not even talk about water infrastructure and healthcare. The current government are not fixing the drivers of crime, so I think it just comes down to their ridiculous race baiting that appeals to uninformed ZB types. It can’t be based on actual statistics.

        1. He can’t Wheel, Trevor lacks credibility, just another Tory from the land of England who fled his country because he’s gutless.

      4. Record low unemployment .GDP growth around 5% for 6 years even in a world wide pandemic and recession .Thousands of businesses kept alive by government .40000 houses per year built ,60000 new trades people trained ,paid for by the government .Pay parity for women in the work place .Two top state of the art ferries being built .The list goes on if you open your eyes .
What have your lot done that comes even close to that ?NOTHING WE ARE GOING BACKWARDS

  2. The building sector has been absolutely smashed and building consents have declined by over $1 billion compared to the previous year. How many ‘blokes’ and ‘real men’ in that sector voted against the ‘woke’ government in 2023? They got played and now half of them are unemployed and out of business.
Get off the anti-woke bandwagon Bomber – it’s utter nonsense and is used to make stupid people vote against their own economic interests.
We on the left need to stay laser focused on the economy – this government have tanked it completely and no-one will talk about it because a transgender athlete might use the wrong bathroom or because someone is using Maori words in the public sector.
As a fully woke, middle-class, champaign socialist part of me thinks – fuck them – if people want to vote to fuck over their own country and their own lives – that’s democracy.

    1. But then I get angry because lot’s of people who don’t deserve to get fucked over by their own government get fucked over badly. Look at what’s happening in the US with ICE – that is some very cold and very dark stuff that is going on.

    2. I like how you’re raging against a blog post that you obviously agree with:

“We on the left need to stay laser focused on the economy – this government have tanked it completely and no-one will talk about it because a transgender athlete might use the wrong bathroom or because someone is using Maori words in the public sector.”

That is literally Bomber’s point champ, and has been for years.

    3. 100% agree ,the so called squeezed middle fucked them selves over because they thought they were sorted because they had a million dollar house and flash toys .But they forgot they also had a 900k mortgage and now they are the new bottom feeders whose numbers are growing by the day .But hey thats Growth eh .

  3. Anyone who takes this Morgan poll seriously must believe in Bugs Bunny, the Tooth Fairy and Santa! Never ever before has NZ had such an incompetent, arrogant bunch in government! One example: Collins has lost a $100m frigate and now a $29m satellite! Such waste while good folk lose jobs and starve. How intelligent people can continue to vote so unintelligently, beats me. Roy Morgan should be embarrassed putting out this cr&p.

    1. Labour ran the armed forces down by making them security guards on covid hotels this lead to a lose of skilled seamen to crew our navy which ultimately lead to the sinking of the ship. How this government can blamed for the lose of the rocket is only possible by someone who cannot except the fact that the Coalition is doing a great job bring the country out of the pit Labour left it with.

      1. By borrowing record amounts more? Let me know what prescription you’re on, must be HAPPY place!!! This coalition has driven the economy into the ground and can’t come up with anything to fix it when the answer is staring them in the face! History shows that right leaning Governments TELL you they are good at the economy but always perform terribly and then a left leaning Government gets elected and fixs it again.

      2. Labour spent more on defence than the government before it. The Coalition haven’t done anything yet. They have talked but let’s see

  4. Jacinda Adern, and her outright majority Labour government, destroyed the New Zealand economy resulting in out of control inflation. Inflation has, to the best of my knowledge, NEVER been put back in the bottle by economic policy since it would require substantial DEFLATION – a word that no economist or politician ever wants to hear. Thus the inflation put in place by the previous Labour Government is PERMENANT, which means all that the National coalition can do is vainly attempt to make it somewhat more liveable going forward (and without causing more inflation with something like higher minimum wages that would of course further increase prices since labour is generally by and large the main business expense).

    1. It’s worse than that – the previous government caused inflation around the world at a higher rate than in NZ. It might sound un-believable but Jacinda flew to China and made them close all their factories and ports triggering an unprecedented supply shock.
Instead of letting the NZ economy implode in on itself the Labour government and RBNZ tried to save it by printing money and maintaining liquidity in the financial system. All we got out of it was 5% economic growth 3% unemployment and of the an inflation rate peak at 7% – lower than most of our economic peers.

  5. Without young men we can’t win.

The sad fact is Gen Y and gen z men are a write off for the left due to the radical social justice left.

The left doesn’t do well enough with women to balance out the loss of male voters.

Like everything in politics, it’s going to take multiple bruising defeats for the left to realize it’s error and course correct.

The overwhelming majority of both the Labour and Green partys caucuses are female, the left needs to get back to gender parity.

politics is supposed to be about representation, you’ll be hard pressed to find an average kiwi male who feels represented by the librarians, historians, lawyers that make up the Labour and Green partys.

The only genuinely blokey lefty’s in our parliament are Kieren mcanulty, Duncan Webb and Willie Jackson, we need more of them and less academic PMC

The left also needs to stop breaking people down to minority status and reimbrace universalism because currently if you’re not a female, maori or LGBT+ it doesn’t seem like the left is ever saying anything that applies to you.

The left will lose 2026 because of a combination of losing the trust of male voters under 40 and MMP, voters who swung from Labour to National and are unhappy with the current government, would probably be tempted to swing back to Labour but Greens and TPM freak most moderates out and they’ll mostly stick with the devil they know

I just hope the next government needs NZF to blunt ACT because they are crazy enough with NZF i don’t wanna see them without act.

    1. 1 ‘Like everything in politics, it’s going to take multiple bruising defeats for the left to realize it’s error and course correct.
2 The overwhelming majority of both the Labour and Green partys caucuses are female, the left needs to get back to gender parity. ‘

The first would be agreed, except that we haven’t time for the sloths of Kiwiland to absorb the various importances required to make viable change – because – climate change and poverty and hopelessness and resource depletion and breakdown of old reliable systems for communication and travel,…take deep breath… will mean we will be overtaken by problems and people going mad with machetes or similar.

The second point is something that we can agitate about now. I am getting tired of listening to female superior voices, authoritarian wardress tones too often, and note as usual we have over-reacted where we needed to aim for parity, and ‘fair goes’.
