    1. National would not have been able to do any better. More fine tuned waste water testing may allow suburbs or certain streets to be locked down instead of whole cities, when the next killer pandemic hits us.

    2. “History will deal well with Jacinda”.. What does that even mean? You’re no just trying to sound intelligent, are you?
When an actual historical weighting put on it, any examination of Aderns flaws, must be weighed against what has gone before her, and what followed… Let me see… first national/fascist party govt (1950) managed to kill their first unionist, and their only defence was that the farm labourers, and various low life out of the rural heartland were only to use clubs, batons, and other blunt force weapons to beat the strikers into submission… (the perpetrator was never chatged btw, and the government never apologised in any meaningful way… Keith Holyoake .. Enriched himself by buying up farmland, and then rezoning Mangere (tidal rd) as light commercial/industrial..Who also had highway 1 rerouted to go through land he owned… Rob Muldoon… The first of the true “wreckers” Pursued short sighted policy, rooted in bigotry, greed, and the fear that the colonial power base has over ever having to make reparations for their abuses of human rights, and corrupt business practices… Are you getting a picture yet? Yes Adern was “wishy washy” when it came to rebalancing the atrocious imbalances deliberately forced on NZ in the form of Joe Bidens bitch, and globaloist lickspittle, John Key.. A prime ministership that has done more long term damage to this country thgan can ever be fixed… Are you getting a picture yet Einstein? Yes, compared to Australia, NZ was very parsimonious with the level of help through the social welfare net, but we know, without a more than a moments consideration, that the tories would have let this country “thin out” it’s population, which would have made room for more desperate people from the third world, along with their “handlers” who just happen to be the wealthy ones… Seriously mate, trying to sound mysterious simply makes you sound like an ignoramus who hasn’t quite got his “game” going right…

  1. A thought provoking piece for sure, somewhat obscured here by the elevation of Jacinda, far beyond her level of importance given to the piece, relative to a core theme of this piece – Covid economics. Was it all worth it! Well, the first report is out, the information is available, we all get to somewhat answer this question and more. Hopefully, this is a free-for-all discussion bearing in mind that this issue tends to have narrow boundaries of discussion associated with it.

My key takeaway here. Information is always paramount.

    1. Oh well, so much for information, the report and whether any of this helps answer the question asked.

      1. Oh you have to go outside the msm for accurate information A O. Japan is currently doing a good job with their investigations. I’m looking forward to JFK Jr taking on the CDC myself.

  2. Playing Pundit jolly ups in 21st Century media channels is one thing…but it should not be forgotten that the Libertarians and neo libs play for keeps in the service of Capital, Finance Capital and ultimately, and inevitably fascism. Their dirty lineage is Friedman, Hayek, Chicago Boys, Pinochet, Thatcher, Reagan and many other of their deadly spawn in various countries.

Admit it–Damien is one nasty bastard–he would have sacrificed his gran to the virus by the sounds of it.

Jacinda did us proud during COVID.

  3. Damien Grant, simply put , is a simple, unsophisticated, one dimensional thinker …who believes that uneducated, ill informed nonsensical ranting is the product of a thinking person…he , in a word, is delusional.

His personality type is common across the right ….there is no hope for these people.

Even if you categorically prove that black is not white, they still won’t
    believe you.

Like Seymour, Luxon ,Willis, et al, these peole are dangerous and a
    menace to society.

Their ‘reckons’ will cause many unnecessary deaths…but..they will simply deny it…greedy simpletons.

Well…what goes around , comes around.

  4. Damien Grant is an Ex crim he should not be judging anyone he should shut the fuck up and be thankful he was given a second chance

  5. ‘Damien Grant is an Ex crim he should not be judging anyone he should shut the fuck up and be thankful he was given a second chance.’
But surely we should follow the example of our modern coloniser the U.S.A. and elect convicted fraudsters to the highest offices of our nation?

  6. Our Covid response was excellent and Ardern’s instincts about what to do in a crisis were almost unerringly correct. And that’s because she knew that collective action and collective sacrifice for the common good were the only way out of it in reasonable shape. The default neoliberal/libertarian/sociopathic/far right instinct of personal action for private gain would have plunged us into all into perdition and misery.
And because exactly the same sort of response will be needed for us to have any chance fighting climate change, far right loons like Grant et al. are desperate to erase the Covid response from memory or to absurdly and childishly demonise it. Stand together and ignore or resist or ridicule the sociopaths on the far right.

    1. Extremely well said AB…

Of course the real acid test would have been to put the unhinged rantings and reckons of Clusterfuxon ,Seymour, Peters and Damien Grant into practice…

Take all of what they said …feed it into
a computer… let it analyse the quid pro quo …the death rate…the downstream damage to the economy if their way of
managing the Covid response had been implemented and compare the results…

I think Damien Grant would end up crawling under a rock never to be seen again.

  7. Where are all the wankers that wanted to hang Jacinda, oh that’s right, they are glued to their splattered pictures of Nicky No Boats in her pyjamas stuck to their bedroom ceilings. Just shows what gullible ignorant morons the anti Jacinda wankers are.

  8. Jacinda Ardern is a lovely person, a great ambassador for our country and one of the best prime ministers we have had. All her detractors can just go and jump in the lake.

      1. Do not be deceived.
WT is so far right and normally revels in denigrating anyone further left of centre or supports the ToW… I think he’s ‘taking the piss’, or has seen the error of his ways, but that’s very unlikely!

  9. You have a stronger stomach than me, I started reading his article and felt sick after the first few lines so didn’t bother reading any more.

    1. pdm is a frequent right wing flyer, what else would you expect, balance?

  10. DG represents the paradox of the faux libertarian.

You know .. those guys that don’t like rules and regulations but then hypocritical as they make more micro- managing laws to govern by coercion.
How else do you get a rational population to follow the myth of a Libertarian utopia ?

Like a mangy cat, that you never liked. They act like they are independent but in reality are utterly dependent on a system of low paid minions to serve up their needs – food, water, heat, light, a road to cross to exploit the neighbourhood- all for THEIR liberty.

    These cats will throw tantrums, spray stink on THEIR territory, that was once yours;
and shit in your shoes if you don’t play by THEIR regulations.

F%#k YOUR liberty, here’s a super-prison for wearing YOUR jacket.

Little Dave, like that mangy cat, throws a tantrum, a haka of sorts too, because the ABs ” free expression ” to the world is not by HIS rules.
(Coming soon. Buy his book, ” How to be a Māori.”)

And no, you didn’t see those tens of thousands of protesters, they were just a big illusion.
The drunk uncle, fried Winnie he says they’re all extremists. An astroturf,  not like the FSU, the Taxpayers Union, Hobson’s Choice…

DG’s skill is stirring and spinning a CROCK OF SHIT and presenting it as authentic ” foie gras”.
Swallow at own risk, don’t you know…only a libertarian is real.
    All Heil little Dave !

  11. Put it this way if it was smallpox spreading like wildfire in the community without a vaccination what would Damien grant have done along with all the small pox deniers. Would there have been a massive parliament anti vaccination sit in all merrily spreading their spores refusing to be vaccinated refusing to accept mandates. My guess is that they would have all been running for the hills begging Jacinda to save their sorry arses.

  12. So Damien says “Reckless monetary policy locking a generation out of housing”.

Where did the $70 billion go? That’s $14,000 for every man, women and child in the country, The $70 billion that saved banks, landlords and businesses, it’s gone somewhere, someone has it. The share of the $70 billion received by ordinary people was spent on food, rent and mortgage interest so who has the $70 billion now? Damien’s an economist maybe he knows where the $70billion’s gone? Perhaps he can offer some advice on how The People can get their $70 billion back.

I recall he mentioned he made a cool $million on his property as a result of the covid largesse. Could it be returned? 😉

    1. Damien is not good with money he has history. Joseph is correct, Jacinda and Robo did exceptionally well to keep us all afloat during Covid. Saying otherwise is pure financial naivety.

Sadly we now have a government hellbent on cost cutting when investment is much needed. Willis is not a minister of finances arsehole. Just look at the picture of her lying on her back, says it all.

  13. Uh point of correction: We live in a society not an economy. Got to get the priorities right: As the article emphasises, a human life is worth a lot -ask the individual and the families.

  14. Grant is a Champagne libertarian who picks and chooses his ideology; as such he’s both harmless and a waste of time as he only really stands for things that affect him personally.
That suits the woke at Stuff just fine and they get to claim balance by publishing his latest narcissistic reckons.
He is Verity Johnson for rich old white dudes.

  15. I believe NZ should have had a federal constitution. Then the regions could look after their own areas in terms of health, education, justice, police, housing, prisons etc instead of Wellington dictating to them, and this includes covid response as well.

  16. Interesting though for a free-speech absolutist, he doesn’t allow comments on his column. Which is probably just as well given his general ignorance. He is a libertarian after all, and who could forget “what’s a leppo?”
