During the global Covid-19 pandemic, women have carried much of the unpaid emotional and domestic burden of caring for their families and communities, often simultaneously holding down paid jobs, many on reduced hours or salaries.
Women have also been disproportionately affected by job losses, particularly women of color and ethnic minorities.
Worldwide, women lost more than 64 million jobs in 2020 alone, resulting in an estimated US$800 billion (NZ$1100b) loss of income.
Mirroring these trends, women in Aotearoa faced greater economic, social and health challenges than men.

Men are much more likely to die from COVID-19 than women. This is true globally – where the death rate has been about 50% higher for men. Notably, this gap does not appear to be explained either by differences in the number of confirmed cases or in pre-existing conditions. With the pandemic cutting life expectancy of American men by more than two years, it is important to understand and mitigate risks associated with COVID-19 mortality among men.
…could you imagine the outrage if 3 men had written an opinion piece focusing only on men and breast cancer?
Stuff can’t pretend these global mortality dynamics aren’t being replicated here…

Why is it okay to totally obliterate the naked fact that men are dying in far greater numbers than women? Because to acknowledge that would rob Stuff and the authors all the victimhood status they want while plying their gender framework.
Sure, the pandemic may well have exposed those gender disparities in the home, but men are dying of it at far greater numbers!
I’m pretty sure all those dead men aren’t having a great time of it gender role wise either!

CNN the once respected network that went full woke is now a laughingstock most recently for being shown peddling fiction over Kyle Rittenhouse. CNN+ their subscription service didn’t last 3 weeks before being canned, no one wants to pay for religious indoctrination.
Musk, a friend of the BabylonBee is looking to buy Twitter, the haven of woke moral judgement, to all sorts of glorious outrage.
Politically the Democrats are in full retreat and going to be smashed in the next elections.
And here we have Stuff, bought for $1 and trying to be an even worse HuffPost.
I’m looking forward to seeing what happens to them and the other woke zealots (especially RNZ) who rely on other peoples money to transmit their dogma, under a change of government.
Good thing there are plenty of jobs going – I suggest fruit picking, it’s healthy, physical, rural and outdoors, all things a bunch of unemployed journos could use some exposure to.

As someone wryly observed, when life expectancy is discussed it is usually in the form of women being lonely in old age rather than enquiring why men tend to die younger. This is also why early feminists like Erin Pizzey and Warren Farrell and others who could have a made substantive (rather than ideological) contributions to sex, gender and addressing social disfunction, got sidelined.

NZ media platforms are basically National Party Political Broadcasts/publications. The Tory Times Herald is full of ex Natz or ACT losers making out of date comments on current politics. Tory talk ZB has 18 hours of right-wing ravings promoting anti Labour views and promoting voters to the National party. Why don’t these two media platforms engage at least one raving left winger we can listen to.
The very same Stuff that ran the hateful headline “The Weaker Sex” acknowledging that more men than women had died from Covid. I wondered just what fucked up individual wrote that? To take the piss out of someone dying? What is wrong with Stuff?
It’s an industry. A growth industry. Females will always be victims of everything, first, second and third, victims of things yet to be invented or discovered.
It’s like night follows day!
The higher death rate amongst men is important. So is the gendered social impact. The story needn’t be an ‘either or’.
Meanwhile there is a social phenomenon going on that visit rolling back decades of gains for women – in safety, security, bodily privacy, sports participation, political representation, mental and physical wellbeing. But that story is absolutely taboo.
Clue: it has to do with sex being biological and gender being social construct . . .
personally I enjoy current affairs reports featuring well groomed, well educated women who can speak for themselves and their sex; it gives me hope, unlike all of you or most of you commenting here- your misogyny is showing!!!
