NZ Herald owner NZME reveals talks to buy Stuff newspapers

Media company NZME has revealed it has been in talks with its rival Stuff to buy some of its newspapers and websites.

But those talks have now been paused due to a board takeover bid at NZME, the publisher of the New Zealand Herald.

In an announcement to the NZX stock exchange, NZME said it has had discussions since late last year to buy part of the Stuff Mastheads business in an effort to grow the audience and revenue of its OneRoof business.

The move was mainly aimed at Wellington and the South Island, it said. Stuff owns the Post newspaper and its website in Wellington and The Press in Christchurch as well as a number of other regional papers in the South.

Last December, Stuff was divided in two – Stuff Digital administers stuff.co.nz, Neighbourly and its audio and video divisions. Newspaper brands and their own websites like The Post, The Press and The Waikato Times were incorporated into Masthead Publishing.

NZME said of the talks: “The strategic rationale for any transaction was the acceleration of OneRoof’s revenue and audience, particularly in Wellington and the South Island, and the ability to grow NZME’s total audience, customer base and profitability.”

But it has been revealed the talks have been paused while NZME is facing a Board takeover.

I appreciate you are all very busy but this Alt-Right Canadian Billionaire who is attempting to take over NZME AND all our other Newspapers represents an enormous danger to our democracy.

We can’t let an Alt-Right Billionaire with a radicalised anti-Māori, anti-Treaty, anti-Trans, climate denying and anti-vaccine editorial stance take over NZME and the majority of our newspapers!

…and now alt-Right Canadian Billionaire James Grenon is attempting to take over the NZME platform including ZB and the NZ Herald.

Grenon could just be your average run of the mill vampire capitalists who sees value in selling off OneRoof and making a quick buck OR he could be a radicalised culture war Billionaire who wants  a far right culture war editorial line and his previous support of Alt-Right Hate Blogs and anti-vaxx grifters is alarmingly suggesting an ulterior motive.

To date Grenon has done all he can to hide his true editorial intent, but his connection to right wing hate blogs and antivaxx grifters suggests another agenda.

The way NZME has been misrepresented financially by a major shareholder reeks of a set up.

Grenon has sold his take over as a profitable one, but a radical change in editorial position would see a readership and advertiser revolt causing the share price to crash which would allow Grenon to buy an even larger share so that he can dominate the editorial agenda because when it comes to radicalised alt-Right billionaires taking over the media, they don’t care if it makes money or not because they don’t want money!

Billionaires already have money, they want power.

Allowing a vampire capitalist shred NZME for a quick buck is one thing, allowing an alt-right radicalised billionaire drive ZB, NZ Herald and the majority of our Newspapers into a culture war is another.
