Election 2020: Greens prepared to walk away from part in next Government if post-election talks sour

The Greens are prepared to forego a coalition or confidence and supply arrangement and sit on the crossbenches if post-election talks do not go their way.

Co-leader James Shaw made the comments on Thursday, saying the only post-election deal that was off the table completely was one which would give National power.

However, he said if the Greens held the balance of power it was “always a possibility” that it would walk away from negotiations with Labour if they could not get the gains they wanted.

Couple of things here.

1 – If James had fought as hard for meaningful climate change legislation as he did for his Jedi Academy, the Greens might not be on the verge of electoral annihilation.

2 – Throwing your weight around now when you have no power is pointless sophistry.

3 – Labour aren’t listening.

If James Shaw wants to ensure the Greens get back in, throwing tantrums about negotiating with Labour in a hypothetical future that is increasingly looking unlikely will do  sweet bugger all in doing that.

If James wants to help, he should be in Auckland Central doing everything to get Chloe in.

  3. James Shaw was always far to close to the ‘corporate world’ to truly be a real ‘Green Party Advocate’ wasn’t he just????
    he always came over as a ‘suave slimy person’ that seemed to be a ‘bullshitter.’

    I went to the first public meeting he organised around the country in 2018 and he didn’t even appear there but just sent a panel of public service employees that produced a video of him speaking to the audience just like a corporate show for us public to make him seem bigger than life so I don’t believe he was good for my old “Green Party” of Rod Donald and Jeanette Fitszimmons that I and several others joined around the country as a community group in Napier in 1999 to get the Party off the ground.

    Last point was we will never vote for the party until Russell Norman, Kevin Hague, Kieth Locke, Kennedy Grahame and possibly Sue Kedgley, came back to show real mama to this disgraced party now just full of their own self importance and left environment out of the picture entirely, it is so sad to see how the party has sunk to being a an “Idealist party’ without an ‘environmental action’ now, especially to even attempt to say “Climate change and clean emission rail” all in the same sentence”.

  5. James Shaw at the Aro Valley public meeting for all politicians said he does not support BDS because it has been taken over by dangerous antisemitic forces! He has been got to by David Cumin. I wonder how the rest of his caucus feel about this.

    James is dangerous, weak and a bloody fool!
