I’ve always suspected that the government took away the universal family benefit ( $6 per child per week paid to the main caregiver) to pay for one of the bailouts in the 80s for this bank.
This universal benefit was replaced by targeted assistance that requires being targeted by a WINZ sadist to obtain.
