Election: Minister and Electoral Commission stoush over 20-day wait for full election results
Justice Minister Paul Goldsmith and the Electoral Commission are in open disagreement over the date they will be able to deliver full election results, following Goldsmith’s controversial law aimed at speeding up the count.
The Electoral Commission confirmed last week following the announcement of the election for November 7 that full results ‒ including the impact of special votes ‒ would not come until 20 days after the election on November 27, the same period of time it took in 2023.
This is despite a law passed by Goldsmith late last year which banned voters from enrolling during the advance voting period or on election day, aimed at speeding up the final count ‒ with Goldsmith targeting a return to a two-week counting period.

..the entire rational by Goldsmith on gerrymandering the rules was to get the result quicker, but the Electoral Commission is telling Goldsmith that the delay will still be 20 days to count overseas votes.
This is terribly embarrassing for the Government because the argument used to rob people of voting would be a quicker result, but it will still be 20 days regardless.
Let’s be very clear – this IS gerrymandering.
The vast majority of those 400,000+ votes cast go to the Left!

One month or two weeks to count all the votes does not matter. It never has before and does not now.

Oh Trevor, critical thinking will tell you that the coalition’s reason for shortening the time to vote is so a coalition government can be formed quicker yet moron Luxon has put up the latest date available in November and it will still take weeks to confirm. I am currently enjoying reading Jacinda Ardern’s book and see how much work is involved in ensuring every ‘eligible voter’ is on the roll – this time earlier than was previously legal, and knows where to vote. So to counteract the CoC “cheating”, and it is “cheating”, the Left team needs to be out there now, door-knocking and setting up enrolment stations in strategic places incl. in Aus. That the mealy-mouthed Goldsmith was able tp bring in a Bill so insidious and blatantly biased is unbelievable but what we have come to expect from this bullying culture. DEMOCRACY, under this corrupt CoC is DEAD! Again, I can’t believe that anyone, whatever their potitical affiliations, wants this dictatorship, mass asset sales, privitisation and NZ controlled by overseas “owners”. If they do, then go for it as it will backfire on you and the NZ that we know and love will cease to exist. Once done there will be no way to undo it!
