How did anyone think Rocket Lab wasn’t working for the Amerikan Military Industrial Complex?
When Rocket Lab aren’t sending up space junk as crass advertising, they are of course a cheap means for the Amerikan Military Industrial complex to send up more and more satellites for the weaponisation of space.
Apparently this is news to the middle class Millennials over at The Spinoff.
I’m not sure how it could be, Glenn Greenwald’s excellent The Intercept connected the US Military Industrial Complex to Rocket Lab as far back as 2016. the valid point The Spinoff makes however is why won’t the NZ mainstream media ever point this out.
We hype the technological genius of Rocket Lab without identifying who benefits most from low cost satellite launches when the obvious answer was always going to be the American Military.
The most interesting part of The Spinoff investigation is how Rocket Lab themselves used Spinoff to lie about the military component of their business model…
Rocket Lab told The Spinoff that Instant Eyes was intended for use by “first responders requiring real-time situational awareness in scenarios such as forest fires and search and rescue operations”.
However, marketing materials from the time refer to its applications for “tactical missions” and “covert use”, and include images of US soldiers. The Rocket Lab website compared it to other intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance tools for the battlefield, such as the Pointer, Raven or Predator – all drones used by the US military.
…which is an important reminder to propagandists, if you want to con NZers, get the Millennials on The Spinoff first.

And now let’s talk about Lockheed Martin’s little set up alongside Rocket Lab, their breakthroughs in the use of microwave and laser weaponry not forgetting drones, trialed (maybe) as far back as Iraq (in particular “the road of death”)…don’t mean to be mean but our own PM will know all about that road being friends with Blair and all that…and let’s throw in some comment about the weirdness of our own Port Hills fire and dabble in conjecture about “wild” fires in California.

Yes, Siobhan I totally agree! Stupid little NZers look at the pretty rocket and the crappy Space Art… How come the polluting and noise aspect have never been critiqued, in such a pristine environment too…remote that’s why it is there of course, but there is an exclusion zone whenever they launch so no boats etc… The US military aspect just adds to the shittyness of the whole endeavor.
It just makes us another target when the Nukes start flying. I note that all the elite hideaways are down south.
Oh, I knew Rocket Lab would be sending technology into space which would ultimately be used by the US Military – I thought that was obvious to everyone!
I reckon the NZ Government should send up a couple of spy satellites (if they haven’t already) – give the elite technologists in our intelligent services some more fun toys to play with!
NZ Inc has served the interests of its Five Eyes allies for ages, are we any surprised that a private rocket business operator is just joining the club of those collaborating for nice profits and plans for further expansion?
Business and powerful elite circles hold the true power, those who believed voting in an ‘alternative’ made up of three now mostly mainstream fringe and not so fringe parties are slowly being shown they were damned naive or extremely desperate and naive at the same time.
