While the Immigration Minister didn’t handle things well by telling everyone he didn’t read the entire report, it turned out the information that the National Party were screaming he should have paid attention to didn’t even appear in the actual report.
The real issue here is that Sroubek’s former wife is now with a National Party member and is feeding information to National to make this molehill into a mountain. National just need to rely on Kiwis knee jerk anger over criminals and this nothing story keeps going.
The irony that 3 people have died in 3 decades from MDMA – the drug he imported, is the cherry on the top of this bullshit cake.
What is most staggering however is the hypocrisy over the new furore National are trying to create over Richie texting Jacinda…
National’s spokesperson for Immigration, Michael Woodhouse, has slammed Jacinda Ardern for her involvement in the Sroubek saga.
Mr Woodhouse has released a statement demanding the Prime Minister explain her ties to Sroubek, and says the text messages suggest she was closer to the controversy than was let on.
“Why was Sroubek’s main supporter texting her directly to pass on his ‘respect and praise’ over the decision to allow Sroubek to stay in New Zealand in spite of Sroubek’s criminal history and the fact that he came here on a false passport?”
He goes on to name the man mentioned only as “Alex” in the texts by his full name.
“Why was one of Sroubek’s fellow inmates – Alex Swney – texting and emailing the Prime Minister information on the case, which has only now been revealed in spite of months of questioning? And what was that information and what is her relationship with Mr Swney?”

Chief archivist Marilyn Little has agreed to a call from Green MP James Shaw to investigate Prime Minister John Key for deleting text messages.
The practice came to light last month amid a furore about Key’s messages to attack blogger Cameron Slater. Key says he destroys text messages in case his phone is lost.

In the meantime labour are killing of Michael joseph savages legacy by selling up state home land meant for poor and working class people and their families discriminated and disadvantaged by the housing market. 500k plus homes in the bronxs areas are now the norm and this was where they put the our Maori people. Now we have the wanna be rich and foreigners who got in before the law change living in these areas and homes that were suppose to be for us an other NZers.
Don’t blame foreigners and migrants seeking a better life for themselves and their families, Michelle. Blame those who would enslave those foreigners and migrants and drive you and your family into wage slavery and debt to the detriment of all of us and our children and our children’s children.
Migration is a part of our story and we are all immigrants but I agree with you that to ensure we achieve the intergenerational wellbeing we all want for ourselves, our families, our neighbours and our children, that migration must be orderly and all workers must be paid fairly and have access to decent housing as you point out.
really Garry you don’t speak for me or some of my ancestor who were not immigrants they have always been here. As for blaming those that enslaved us its pakeha that have enslaved us with their monocultural practices, laws , policies etc. We have been colonised we have suffered entrenched systemic state sanctioned racism and discrimination and its still happening. And one area of particular concern is the justice system.
Michelle, Tangata Whenua have not been consulted on immigration to the extent that they should have been. It’s essential that we as a nation keep Maori interests, economic and cultural, at the forefront of our minds.
Tangata Whenua should be more involved in this process, and immigrants should be aware of the Treaty and its principles and the other laws and customs of Aotearoa if they want to live here.
As a Pakeha it upsets me to think that Maori and you yourself personally have suffered state-sanctioned racism and I encourage you to get involved in political processes like making submissions to select committees and getting involved in community groups to ensure the concerns of your and your community or communities are felt and understood.

Though, to be less cynical; lots of the voting public know what National are like and see Labour’s neo-liberal tripe for what it is.
Millennial’s (My generation) have largely performed poorly in the citizenship arenas of voting, being informed and putting forward quality candidates (both locally and nationally).
I hope Generation Z can pull a rabbit out of their hat!
Going forward, National would be fools NOT to promise huge tax cuts for salary and wage earners .. it’s the only candy that myopic lot can offer going forward.
