Hobbit TV show warms National’s slow burn for the Hobbit law war
I’ve pointed out numerous times how the National Party intend to use industrial disputes as a narrative that Labour have lost control of their union mates as a wider attack against the new Government…
at the moment these attacks are only finding traction amongst National voters, but when the transport strikes, Nurse strikes and teacher strikes occur, that National Party narrative will start to turn.
…National’s focus is on public transport and public services but they have a specific target lined up for the Hobbit Law reform.
Last time National believed their attack on the NZ Actors Union and ability to frame the story as National saving the Hobbit film being filmed here was a major political win.
They are hoping for the same again.
As TDB has been pointing out for some time, the new TV series for The Hobbit has been announced and Peter Jackson has pitched for it.
The play will be Corporate Hollywood are considering filming the TV series in NZ but lo and behold will claim that Labour’s repeal of the Hobbit Law will suddenly put the entire series at jeopardy.
We wil most likely hear this weeks before Labour puts the Hobbit law reform on the Parliamentary agenda.
National will whip this into a frenzy. Last time the mainstream media all jumped on board the narrative and the Actors Union (even with Helen Kelly fighting beside them) were crushed.
The smart play would be to pre-empt this now.
If this TV show is anything like the Hobbit movies it will be a slow, unfocused, tedious mess. Speaking of which, a very talented editor has edited the bloated three Hobbit films together into a single 3 hour film (based on the events from the book), which is infinitely superior to what Jackson’s egotistical hubris shat out. I’d post a link, but obviously the legality is somewhat questionable.
