Harbour Bridge Toll would be $360 per month for commuters – why is Auckland being punished for Central Government mass immigration policies?

Debate is intensifying over proposals to toll the Auckland Harbour Bridge, with estimates suggesting regular commuters could face hundreds of dollars per month in additional costs. The question isn’t just about traffic — it’s about who pays for growth.
User Pays Or Public Investment?
How on earth is the solution to free market infrastructure underinvestment more User Pays?
It’s like using cancer to cure syphilis!
What Would A Harbour Bridge Toll Actually Cost?
A $9 toll for commuters monthly would be almost $400 extra PER MONTH!
Just to get to work!
Immigration Policy And Infrastructure Pressure
Auckland doesn’t set the nationwide immigration levels, Central Government does.
Why is Auckland being punished for mass immigration policies we had no hand in setting?
Don’t take that in any way shape or form to mean I am anti-immigration!
I have seen in my time Auckland blossom into an incredible multi-cultural city that adds a dynamism and vibrance that every single one of us as Aucklanders can be genuinely proud of, but that huge population gain requires proper funding of infrastructure, and that funding has to come from central government, not the residents of Auckland who had no hand in the forces that have caused such enormous strain on our underfunded infrastructure!
Cost Of Living Impact On Auckland Workers
Auckland’s commuter class simply can’t afford an extra $5,000 a year in costs just to get to work!
Keynesian Economics Versus Market Mythology
It is utterly insane that we are allowing free market mythology over rule basic Keynesianism.
The State invests because it is in the national interest that the largest City in the country be able to provide the infrastructure to house so many, it doesn’t just shrug and say ‘not my problem, you pay for it’.
User Pays is the disease, it isn’t the cure!
Election 2026 And The Infrastructure Funding Debate
We have to provide a Left Wing Economic response to this that makes the State work for the people, not the powerful!
Infrastructure is not a luxury — it is the foundation of economic productivity. The debate over Harbour Bridge tolls is ultimately about whether the state shoulders national growth costs, or whether individual commuters are left to carry them alone heading into Election 2026.

The toll should never have been removed .A new crossing would be real by now had it been left in place ,its called PAYING FOWARD ,which is where our thinking needs to be headed .
