GUEST BLOG: Willie Jackson – Why Jonathan Coleman must go
Our Candidate in Northcote, Shanan Halbert is battling Jonathan Coleman in Northcote this election, and it’s a fight Shanan deserves to win.
I have time for many MPs across the spectrum, but Coleman is someone who really tests my patience. Under his watch as Health Minister he and his Government have underfunded health by almost $2billion during their 9 years in power and it’s an underfunding that is killing some of our most vulnerable.
For a third straight year our suicide rate has risen and what’s Coleman’s response to that? An admission that after 9 years in Government their suicide policy wasn’t working, that’s all he gave.
I was myself caught up in his underfunded health system when I needed to pop into hospital for an illness just a couple of weeks ago, what did I find? Middlemore was closed for 8 hours because they were beyond capacity!
We can’t have a Health Minister who makes us sick!
Shanan Halbert is 35 year old, proud, young Māori man who works in Education. He held a leadership role at Northcote’s Hato Petera College, AUT University and is currently with Te Wānanga o Aotearoa. He gets what cuts in education and health mean for the people in his community, he has seen the impact of National’s economic settings which benefit the few while leaving behind the many.
He has served Northcote and has first-hand knowledge of what the cuts in our public services produces, he is the perfect candidate to go up against Coleman because he can call Coleman’s nonsense out for what it is.
Northcote needs Shanan Halbert and the country needs Jonathan Coleman sacked.
The election is almost here, early voting opens next week. It’s time to change this country.
Coleman suits his name doctor death cause that is exactly what he is doing killing people with his lack of polices/funding and empathy He doesn’t have any. And to think this dickhead is a actual doctor .
Coleman always reminds me of Jiminy Cricket except without the conscience.
I’m reminded of National’s cost-cutting of healthcare in the 1990s. People DIED on the waiting lists, if I remember correctly. It seems nothing has changed as the Nats cut public funding for healthcare, forcing many to pay for more expensive health insurance. This is where neo-liberalism is taking us.
At no. 8 on he list Coleman will be back in Parliament whatever happens.
I will be electorate voting for Shanan – as it would be good to give Coleman a bloody nose, even if he’s back via the list. This will be a huge stretch though, unless National’s vote collapses.
The best long-term strategy for truly getting rid of Coleman is still to change the government decisively so he decides to leave politics altogether.
Presumably this guy signed up to some ‘sort of hippocratic oath’.
But then we all know Dr Death’s political ideology trumps all that, as does Nik Smith’s in relation to the environment, or Paula Bennett’s in relation to ladder pulling and social welfare, or even a Singh Bakshi’s values in relation to Lobh, Moh, Hankaar, Sat, Daya, Nimrata etc., or Bling’s Catholicism. It all makes for their own comfy little disposition.
By the way …. does anyone else notice the use of Bling’s use of the word ‘Choice’ – it goes along nicely with the ‘personal responsibility’ chants that seem to apply to the plebs only, and certainly NOT Bills or Niks or Tolleys or Joyces or Bridges. I think maybe they’ve convinced themselves they’ve pulled themselves up by the bootstraps and hard work.
