GUEST BLOG: The Lockdown With Bryan Bruce Day 12: How are our Nurses Coping?
Last Friday afternoon the Co-leaders of the New Zealand Nurses Union, Grant Brookes and Keri Nuku, generously gave of their time to talk with me about how nurses and other frontline health workers were coping during this worrying time.
I asked them about how nurses were being treated before the crisis and now…. and what they hoped for once we have put this pandemic behind us.
They ask for all of us to be understanding and kind to each other as the way forward.

Bryan Bruce is one of NZs most respected documentary makers and public intellectuals who has tirelessly exposed NZs neoliberal economic settings as the main cause for social issues.
To protect hospital staff, all patients scheduled for surgery during this time, other than emergencies, need to be tested for Covid-19 prior to their surgery.
I would have thought this would be automatic by now, in all hospitals, but apparently it is not. And as a result of that omission large numbers of hospital staff (and other patients) are being put at risk, and are having to go into isolation.
At this stage of the pandemic, failure to pre-test for Covid-19 is surely negligence, given the disastrous consequences of not doing so. RNZ Surgery Patient Later Tested Positive
Clark’s misdemeanours pale into insignificance given what this patient did.
We do not seem to hear much from Andrew Little at the moment . Instead of trying to push through his pet project of allowing prisoners to vote he should be making a law that stops someone like this creep getting away with it.
