  1. Splendid explanation Tadhg! If only we could get a leader/party who is prepared to take a completely new approach thus taking us out of this endless doom and gloom downhill spiral. And yes, my pet hate is GREED, followed by CRUELTY and IGNORANCE. Hard to believe how so many self-complacent folk can totally ignore the desperate plight of the many less fortunate. Way past time for a complete reset!

  2. How to form a new party? Or do we even want a new party, are they self-smothering in the long run. Forming a tight circle, feeding each other a series of middle class conveniences to feed as policies that people will accept. Below the mental activity about what is needed, go for the reckons and supposes.

I did suggest other day something really different. We have to jolt ourselves off the present tracks we are on to others nearby -how would that be managed with a real train by railway enthusiasts? Bet they could do it in an emergency. We have to get off our present thinking – hardly anything thoughtful about different ways and how, gets here which is a good blog, but our ideas have been repressed for decades. And now when you think you’re with a group of advanced thinkers they turn out (often) to be w,,kers (choose meaning at Urban Dictionary, see other people’s word choice, we aren’t all the same). In a group on a project you may find halfway through that some are uncommitted to the real purpose that started the group and the set guidelines.

Democracy as we have it doesn’t work, we can see this. The understanding and experience sufficient to make decisions is not a common thing, it doesn’t fall out of the sky; when we choose people they must be informed, knowledgable, concerned and practical about society’s real needs. We can’t go on with figureheads who have some knowledge and fall for fancy schemes they or their ‘significant others’ wish for or find okay.

So we need to go for something different. Something that in itself does not bestow great standing. The strong and wise need some humility, but understand the needs and feel sure of the practices and actions that must be attended to at each level of need. They should receive superior reward as leaders but not taking largesse from the community.

As a practice in getting minds on to different lines, I thought something fanciful like a Good Cheer, My Dear group. People would read Terry Pratchett, perhaps George Monbiot as kwtc keeps exhorting us. Oliver James should be read also and his point in the Selfish Capitalist is absolutely relevant for us in our 5 Eyes miasma.
…twice as many people suffer [emotional distress] in English-speaking nations compared with citizens of Western European (23% compared to 11.5%) – from World Health Organisation findings from 2000-2006 approx. So those from Germany, Holland, Belgium, Italy or Spain are half as likely as American, British, Australian, Canadian or New Zealand, to be suffering emotional distress.p.1.

How we can manage our way into the future when our social systems are breaking down and our living systems are under threat from our political/business systems and climatic effects requires a new way of managing our lives and thoughts. We need better than the Gloriavale approach and adjust ways from those described in Olive Jones’ book Commune.
