  1. Record atmospheric CO2 and record heat, record species loss, record overpopulation and record overconsumption, with no prospect of disengaging from the use of fossil fuels until they become start to become unavailable. And no proper public debate about anything of significance. That’s the world we live in.

  2. Russel is not a revolutionary.

His direction towards change is somewhat muted and incremental as he is striving to work within a system that prevents change, and is controlled by money.

A much bigger change is needed than what that will allow. Changes that Russel and Greenpeace cannot not attempt alone. Time is running out.

It may be too late as desperation and panic will not be too far away. Then economic decisions will not take people or the environment or long term survival into account.

We do not have organised cohesion of labour or other people based power to oppose the entrenched rule of business, money created by banks nor transnational corporations controlling MSM and information streams. Corruption within our public systems is also plainly evident.

Russel has information resources gathered from international agencies across a wide spectrum, yet he is treated as an outsider, an enemy to business.

The narrow focus of Business NZ is what has to change and that will not be done willingly.
People need to get behind Russel and other such leaders to force necessary change.

It cannot be left to Govts, the Business Roundtable or transnational corporates as it is now.

The consequences of public inaction are shaping to be extremely grave. Time is running out fast.

A succession of neoliberal thrusts have wounded us deeply. National’s last term took us backwards away from necessary changes and may have badly damaged the weak public platform that was gathering through protest and emerging realisation about what lies ahead.

  3. In my view the CP-TPP should have been discarded by Labour, especially given the noises to that effect and advertising pre election and before. Certainly the US had no qualms about withdrawing.

Suffice to say I’m not sure govt is the answer to our environmental problems. I suspect it will take public consensus and a process of pressing those opposed to positive change.

  4. Climate change, if left unadressed, will be our next great threat. Those right wingers who continue to refute the evidence before their eyes need a swift kick up their pants!! Considering most of our major cities are on the coast, rising storm surges will be a billion dollar threat. And then wait for insurance companies to stop selling flood insurance!!!

  5. ” I don’t think the Zero Carbon Act needs to have the National party vote for it. I’m not a big believer we can only do this through consensus. We have to be ambitious and future conservative governments will follow it. In terms of the politics, you want a just transition and help people as much as you can.”

And I agree….sadly the co leader of the Greens appaently dosnt….that is a major mistake
