  1. This is the inevitable consequence of electing a government with no viable policies and no management experience.
From the get-go they’ve been making it up as they went along and leaning heavily on ‘working groups’, spin merchants and consultants.

    1. Andrew that is utter rubbish. “No management experience” is why they have used consultants? As Peter points out managers in the corporate private world are forever hiring consultants. It would be interesting to see how many consultants Air NZ would have used while Luxon was in charge. You can guarantee Unilever used plenty.

  2. For the past 50 years at least ‘consultants’ have been an ever increasing ‘tool’ of corporate and political management. All companies and parties have sort their services. The fees claimed by these instant experts in any subject you care to name are as obscene as the executive management salaries and bonuses paid to those seeking consultants’ advice.
The question must always be – are they providing value for money?
What we now need to know is what has EY and the others provided for these fees and why the Transtion Unit does not have the internal expertise to carry out this work itself.

    1. I think you are completely right about consultants Peter. I just think the fact that all those experts at the DHBs both engaging and probably, on occasion at least, replicating the service provided as the very reason you should be getting rid of all these executives

  3. This just staggers me.
Where is then is the internal advice coming from within the health system in setting up the new health nz.
It seems there is none being sort from within the system and it is a suck it or leave it involved.

    1. Well Geoff what the writer of the article actually pointed out last time was numerous DHBs have been employing EY since 2014 ( I think that is what the last article said). All those executive boards hiring the same consultant and we don’t see anything in that to say maybe that’s a tad stupid. Who says that there has not been internal advice? 10 mil over two years to reform a 20 billion dollar juggernaut? This country spent 125 million on p testing houses for seemingly no reason in the end.
