  1. Of course deaths are only one of a number of factors to consider.
What will be the long term costs of the truancy epidemic for example.

  2. This is a post I almost entirely agree with. I am absolutely over all the conspiracy theorists and covid deniers who think otherwise. They have their “safe” home on kiwiblog. Interestingly, based on who posts, they are almost identical to the climate change deniers. No one ever contests their crap posts on either subject, there is no point. Let them wallow in their fantasies. However there is one good point, they get plenty of downticks.

    1. Hi Wayne. If the “deniers” are so off base and so muddled in their thinking, then shouldn’t it be very easy to debunk them? When someone says “I disagree with you, you are clearly wrong, but there is no point demonstrating how wrong you are,” I take this to be synonymous with conceding “you are right, and I am unable to fault your argument.” It’s simply not good enough to declare you are right while not responding to those with different arguments. It’s a very convenient stance though, because it means you don’t have to articulate and defend why you believe what you believe. An argument from authority is a logical fallacy.

      1. The level of venom from them against anyone who points out an alternative view makes it unwise and pointless to post against them. Nothing can shift them. For instance I don’t post on “No Minister” because of the level of personal attack I faced.

I know Martyn believes that Chris Luxon will be nothing more than a cypher for Seymour. On that basis Martyn believes that Luxon will completely cave in to Act on all environmental and climate change legislation. However, that is not how National and Luxon are positioning themselves. Luxon has specifically said climate change deniers should give it up. The climate change is real and requires a real policy response. It is worth recollecting that National voted for Shaw’s legislation.

The point of this is the climate change deniers on KB went ape shit when Luxon said that. They could not believe that a National leader would have the temerity to take such a stand; to specifically call them out. Needless to say they are now all voting Act. Good on them; National doesn’t want them. I would note that Seymour is also changing his tune on climate change, along with his other younger MP’s and members. The deniers may be noisy and rude, but they are a declining force.
