GUEST BLOG: Bryan Bruce – Water is a precious resource
There was a protest in Christchurch last week about the mismanagement of this precious resource by Environment Canterbury (ECAN)
The group (who call themselves Rebellion Extinction ) say Environment Canterbury has actively facilitated the expansion of industrial farming practices that are turning our rivers toxic, cutting down trees, killing soil life and emitting dangerous amounts of carbon into the atmosphere.
Most importantly, they say, ECAN bypassed democratic process, allowing Christchurch water to be bottled and sold.
This footage of their most recent meeting when some of the protesters were taken away in vans was sent to me by Christchurch videographer Marney Brosnan.
Good on these people for raising awareness that our fresh water resources need to be cared for an protected.
The time is long overdue for the Government to address the issue of foreign companies plundering our freshwater supplies and gurning a blind eye to the many millions of ocean clogging plastic bottles being distributed around the world in the process.
Bryan Bruce is one of NZs most respected documentary makers and public intellectuals who has tirelessly exposed NZs neoliberal economic settings as the main cause for social issues.
Extinction rebellion is set to become a global movement.
What they protest about is obvious but ignored by NZ business and their lackey councilors.
NACT puppets still hold office in these bodies.
Privatise and profit from everything not nailed down. Then they work of extracting the nails.
The Parasites are up for extermination.
Do it Kiwis
Is there a coalition policy on water bottling, overseas ownership of water and the National ECAN irrigation farmer stacking swindle? Where is it?
It’s a shame it’s all happening in the South Island, far from where the chattering classes,the politicians or the woke ever venture.
Otherwise there would be outrage and god forbid, action.
Never mind, sea stadiums and new rail for Auckland hurrah! Chlorinated water and increased nitrates for Christchurch.
In the not too distant past I remember Maori claiming they owned the water, the sea and the air. The foreshore and seabed controversy still rolls on as far as I’m aware, but the claim to water and air seems to have gone quiet.
it’s about time the Maori of NZ rose up as a united front and stopped the chinese from stealing the water, irrespective of who might think they ‘own’ it.
Its about time Kiwis arose up and stopped others owning anything in NZ including land and businesses.
As a Kiwi my parentage has little to do with my rights or entitlements. Its my citizenship that allows me rights equal with other Kiwis.
