  1. Preparations for WWIII are well underway.

Tellingly, the word deterrence is not used as an excuse for this military build up anywhere in this post. In fact the word “deterrence” is referenced exactly only twice and both times, as something in the past.

“Militarisation of the region is a key fear for many Pacific leaders un-used to the long years of armed deterrence that NATO nations experienced during the Cold War. Deterrence that prevented a major war in Europe.” Ben Morgan

That deterrence is seen as something in the past, shows that the penny is starting to drop that World War III has already. started.

Personally speaking I think we or any other Pacific nation should have nothing to do with it.
While we may not immediately be able to do anything about Papua New Guinea volunteering to become a chess piece, or Australia painting a huge bullseye on themselves for hypersonic missiles.

Keeping ourselves out of the rapidly gathering slaughter, declaring our neutrality, and provenly cutting all military and spying ties with any of warring parties could set an example for other Pacific nations to follow.

  2. I think we or any other Pacific nation should have nothing to do with it.

Indeed, but too late we are so tied into the Yankee doodles and the Aussies we couldn’t possibly have nothing to do with it.

The use of the Pacific Islands are used and abused be all including Aotearoa.

    1. Never say never.

We stopped New Zealanders being recruited for the slaughter in Vietnam, We stopped the mighty US nuclear powered navy dead in their tracks.
We managed to stay out of the invasion of Iraq.

Who’s to say what we could achieve if we put our minds to it.
We have already made a start by banning all nuclear powered and armed warships from our ports.

  3. It appears that “demand” from China for NZ logs is falling away. What next? Dairy perhaps?

You can be certain that as a trading partner China would prefer us to be a BRICS member and would definitely wish us out of 5 Eyes.

    1. BRICS is the new Axis Powers.

As global war edges nearer New Zealand’s best interests would be better served by being neutral.

Beijing faces a host of challenges, from a struggling economy to what it sees as an increasingly hostile international environment.

In face of what he called a “complex and grave” situation, Xi said China must speed up the modernization of its national security system and capabilities, with a focus on making them more effective in “actual combat and practical use.”

Infinite economic growth on a finite planet is impossible.

      Famed naturalist David Attenborough put it this way;

‘Anyone who thinks that you can have infinite growth in a finite planet is either a madman or an economist’

Capitalist growth economies are like bacteria that have reached the edge of the petri dish. When growth economies can’t expand anymore they turn to war. War is not a choice for them, it is an imperative.

    2. So we just kowtow to China on everything yes?
How about we just give up on our national sovereignty entirely?
Who knows – we might all end up with an extra $20.00 each at the end of the week . . all we have lost is our freedom.

      1. It is not in our national interest to kowtow to any Super Power bloc.

Far better we choose our own independent path, free from any Super Power entanglements.
