  1. The stark contrast between left wing and right wing politics.
    The left to give people hope, the right, to take it away.
    Kia Kaha Grant.

    1. The people need more than hope, they need competent leadership who deliver real results. Labour had their chance and blew it. Good riddance.

      1. At least he kept us from a recession, same cannot be said under the National coalition government leadership.

  2. “New Zealand’s tax system is unfair and unbalanced. We are almost alone in the OECD in terms of not properly taxing assets and wealth in some form. Our current system entrenches inequality. It is not my place any longer to say specifically what the answer is here, but I do know that the answers are out there. And this is not a message for my party alone. The truth is that we need some political consensus about this to ensure we get it right and it sticks.”

    Grant, you had an absolute majority. You could have fixed this. This omission will be your legacy.

    1. “It is not my place any longer to say specifically what the answer is here, but I do know that the answers are out there”.

      Ain’t that the truth. I have few answers, and no-one of influence that listens anyway, but I suspect when we adopt measurements that no longer reflect standard orthodoxy it might make a difference. But like all ‘wicked problems’ there will be many who point out its not as simple as that. The powerful and rich have a way of bending things to suit themselves, and all the wanna be’s line up behind them, although at the heart of it many may well know its not fair and going forward is simply not sustainable.

    2. In a broad sense there are two questions regarding tax;
      From what? And how much??

      The “from what?” is a question of fairness. Making sure all parts of the economy are evenly taxed.

      How much??
      That is the “left or Right” aspect. How much does the government need to be involved in the economy??

      The two issues need to separated and addressed separately.

    1. That will be gone soon free prescriptions as national want to keep their promises no matter what costs

    2. Working at heights, do you have any understanding of the political system at all. Caucus decides, just go ask David Parker. Blaming Grant is like blaming the previous National government for today’s ills? Oh wait?
