Foodbanks struggle while Supermarkets criminalise – welcome to Old Zealand

Foodbank managers report they’re struggling to cope with more demand as the winter sets in, just as they call again for certainty about Government funding, which was rolled over at the last minute for one year in May’s Budget.

An Auckland supermarket offered to sell a 500g tub of semi-soft butter for $18.29 over the weekend.

758 construction businesses have gone into liquidation in the last 12 months, thanks in part to the Government’s freeze on transport, housing and hospital investment spending at the beginning of 2024, Centrix reported this morning. Construction jobs have fallen by 12,723 in the last year!

Worker and employer expectations of real wage deflation are worsening as the economy slides back into a mid-year stagnation, and as administered prices such as Government and council fees and rates rise faster than inflation, as do prices in the monopoly-bound food, insurance and electricity sectors.

The latest Stats NZ figures show in the past 12 months food prices have gone up 4.4 percent – the highest increase since December 2023.

RNZ have been comparing supermarket shopping and found that In May 2022, their first shop at Woolworths Greenlane cost $238 dollars and $217 at PAK’nSAVE Royal Oak.

But in 2025, those same items at Woolworths have shot up to $305 dollars – an extra $67 dollars at the checkout where as the PAK’nSAVE shop, was now $270, an extra $53 dollars in cost.

Despite promising to tackle the cost of living crisis, the Government has failed us.

What is the Government’s response?

Tough on crime garbage to pair a tired and angry electorate from understanding the yawning chasm this Government’s austerity privatisation budget has plunged us into.

National want you focused on tough on crime bullshit to distract from the cost of living crisis and believe they can do that with a range of crime virtue signals to an angry and reactionary electorate without explaining how these new crime laws will actually work because:

1 – We already have laws against assaulting First Responders.

2 – They can’t tell us how many Coward Punches occur each year.

3 – The Vigilante Shoplifting Law by Paul ‘Mad Max’ Goldsmith will lead to a Vigilante wonderland where you can GET YOUR BASH ON!

The problem is that we have a mainstream media who drench crime porn clickbait which emotionally fires us up and we have this perpetual anger that turns poisonous inside us and turns us into a Lynch mob on law and order.

The ZB Apologists will say, ‘yes we had assault on first responders on the books, but Judges wouldn’t use it.

THAT’S FUCKING RIGHT MORONS! THE JUDGES WOULDN’T USE IT, NOW WHY THE FUCK WAS THAT?

It was because the Judges, who are independent remember, know that a person assaulting a fire fighter or ambulance person at an incident that might be the worst day of their entire life is full of shock and trauma. You protect First Responders from the reality of intense emotional and violent moments by paying them huge money plus lots of extra time off work!!!

You don’t force the hand of a Judge to punish if the Judge recognises the assault as part of the trauma and shock of a moment!

The real reason they are crowing about protecting first responders is because this has been tested on the Social Media Hate Algorithms to inspire fury from people hurting from the cost of living crisis at the unfairness of f4ist responders getting assaulted, rather than an actual intelligent debate on the fairness of charging people for crimes they have committed due to shock or trauma!

The ZB Apologists will say, we don’t know how many Coward Punches there are because the Police don’t collect them that way’, which is an immediate admission that this is another fishing expedition to capture the angry reactionary crime vote. It’s a solution looking for a problem and it can’t be the huge issue they are making it out to be because they have no actual data on it!

As for the medieval punishments the Exploited Migrant Worker Tobacco Guild are pushing for…

…you kinda get the impression they want to bring back the death penalty for shoplifting.

The truly dangerous part about this entire distraction is that it eclipses the truely obscene part about it all – and that is the insanity of not only allowing shipowners to go troop on some kind they think is shoplifting TO ALSO ALLOW BYSTANDERS TO HAVE THE LEGAL PROTECTION OF USING FORCE ON A SUSPECTED SHOPLIFTER!!!!!
