  1. How come Jacinda doesn’t visit her outlaws and have the same conversation and speak the horrible truth as simply and clearly as you do here Christine. As such a privileged nation the least we can do is to speak truth to power. As a national stance it would have an impact. Maybe they would kick us out of the 5 eyes . How about a referendum on that?

    1. Probably because our government is sending our military under the defence of “rebuilding” but instead aka operation Burnham to help kill civilian ‘terrorists’ with the joint effort, and cover it up. So I doubt Jacinda will be worrying about that at all, when all her government advisors are keeping her away from big issues.

      Also why do the leftie commentators always blame the average person rather than the government policy or the government itself…aka

      “So when you sit in the sun and drink water from a tap, or rally against rising fuel prices, spare a thought for Palestine, Yemen, Syria, Libya, and the refugees of the Middle East and Nauru.”

      if you are going to change something best to address commentators concerns to the government that can do the change, because the average Joe can’t do it and often has tried but now given up especially because the neoliberals have now harnessed a lot of lefties to support them in things from unitary plan to massive immigration drives into NZ (NOT refugees but cheap workers or rich investors), having a massive effect on ordinary people’s lives.

      It’s easier to blame your fellow person than the government or local officials… makes it so easy for neoliberalism too, that the politicians and officials creating the policy are not held to account for it.

  2. New Zealand’s biggest problem is that the lifestyle enjoyed by the majority is totally dependent on the capacity of corporations (mostly overseas) to orchestrate the extraction of resources from the commons and to recklessly pollute the commons.

  3. “There is no depression in New Zealand;
    there are no sheep on our farms,
    There is no depression in New Zealand;
    we can all keep perfectly calm,

    Everybody’s talking about World War Three;
    everybody’s talking about World War Three,
    But we’re as safe as safe can be,
    there’s no unrest in this country
    We have no dole queues,
    we have no drug addicts,
    we have no racism,
    we have no sexism, sexism, no, no

    There is no depression in New Zealand;
    there are no teeth in our heads
    There is no depression in New Zealand;
    we sleep in a well made bed
    Oh but everybody’s talking about World War Three,
    yes everybody’s talking about World War Three,
    But we’re as safe as safe can be,
    there’s no unrest in this country
    We have no SIS,
    we have no secrets,
    we have no rebellion;
    we have no valium, valium, no, no

    There is no depression in New Zealand;
    there are no sheep on our farms,
    There is no depression in New Zealand;
    oh we can all keep perfectly calm,
    perfectly calm,
    perfectly calm,
    perfectly calm,
    perfectly calm…”
