  1. Probably the most vulnerable and disaffected people with undiagnosed neurological issues get prison as well. While smarmy cunning psychopaths wriggle off the system with good lawyers.

  2. This from Stats NZ: Last year, fewer than 0.13% of cannabis users were convicted for possession and/or use as their most serious offence.

This from Ministry of Justice: Last year, 0.28% of cannabis users were convicted for possession and/or use as their most serious offence.

If Key is worried about sending a message, he probably shouldn’t announce to the public that he’s happy that police don’t prosecute in the overwhelming majority of cases.

The logical inconsistency of “I don’t want decrim but don’t worry it’s basically what we’ve got” is breathtaking.

Imagine hearing Key’s comments and being one of the >1%. It’s not only a stupid position to hold, it’s just downright cruel.

  4. Since when was our judicial system based on “police discretion”? Does this mean we no longer need to have laws, Courts, lawyers, etc? Just catch’em, lock’em up, and throw away the keys??

Hmmm, might be a vote winner for Act.

  5. Prisons are big business, making tons for investors. They have to have people in cells, no matter what, in order to get the returns for investment.
It is a sick system and should be abolished and rebuilt, ground up. Legalizing cannabis would cut into their profits way too much.

Fill up prisons with minor offenses and some innocent folks and then the money rolls in. Who cares if justice prevails. These psychopathic corporate investors; criminal cops and lobbyists are the problem. Put them in the can.

De-criminalize cannabis, no way, would cut into our profits and crooked cops ; gutless attorneys and brain dead politicians love profits.
