The Trump golden statue unveiled in Florida isn’t just another bizarre MAGA spectacle — it’s become a theological car crash. Evangelical pastors praying towards a giant gold-leafed statue of Donald Trump has critics pointing out something awkward for the self-described defenders of Christian values: the first two commandments explicitly warn against exactly this kind of thing.
Pastors Gather Around Giant Trump Statue
The controversy erupted after evangelical leaders assembled at Trump National Doral Miami for the unveiling of a giant gold-leafed Donald Trump statue known as ‘Don Colossus’.
The statue stands roughly 22 feet tall on top of a seven-foot pedestal surrounded by palm trees at the Florida golf resort owned by Trump. It depicts the president with his fist raised in the air, recreating the moment after the July 2024 assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Videos shared online showed pastors placing their hands toward the statue while praying as supporters applauded nearby.
The dedication ceremony was led by evangelical pastor Mark Burns, one of Trump’s closest religious allies. Burns has repeatedly claimed Trump is protected by God and framed the monument as a patriotic tribute rather than a religious object.
Trump reportedly joined the gathering by phone to thank guests and supporters attending the event.
Just two days later, another blessing ceremony reportedly took place at Mar-a-Lago, further fuelling attention around the statue and the growing MAGA evangelical movement surrounding Trump.
So… about those Ten Commandments

We live in a liberal progressive democracy and we have the freedom of religion, so if you want to believe in a magical flying invisible wizard for your day to day ethical decisions, you do you, but if you are going to go all Christy Christ on us, shouldn’t y’all follow your actual scripture?
I’m no phd student in Theology but I’m pretty sure praying to golden statues is frowned upon…

You don’t know a great deal about evangelicals do you? Firstly they very rarely read the Bible in its entirety. Secondly they cherry pick a shit load, in case what it says in the Bible conflicts with what they actually want to do. I mean just look at our PM, whose totally ignoring them rich man eye of needle thing which is all over the new Testament as well as in the Koran.
I spent a fair bit of my time in this milieu, and have come to despise these bastards. I actually went to an evangelical website once and asked them why they would vote for Donald Trump given his obvious and outrageous “sins”. They were perfectly happy to ignore them as long as he got rid of Roe V Wade. The hypocrisy is strong with these people.
These pricks lost the right to say “character matters” when they voted for Trump.

What’s much worse than that, it’s against Class, Style, Elegance, Intellect, Grace and Beauty but perhaps worst of all, Trump and his mushroom are an affront to all that’s identified as being ‘Cool’. He and his idiocrats have no elegant ‘cool’. He’s a stumping, stained, scowling, tip-shop mattress with small feet and wee pink hands. All he had to do, really, was to gain access to a broadcast media and bingo! Suddenly it’s planet trump. And he’s not alone in his disease spreading pucker-lipped proselytisation’s. We have our Trumpets too. The last politician we had who could scrub up and at least seem moderately intelligent and came with a preinstalled sense of wit and humour was Lange but even he was someone living with half his brain stuck up his arsehole and way before him there was Jack Marshall. Ol Gentleman Jack. Since then, however, we’ve had our own lineage of Trumphs, especially since from the delivery of the infectious disease that’s now become embedded and systemic called neoliberalism.
I’ve just had a vision! A Golden Luxon, his polished dome-head gleaming as his servants and acolytes gather about his feet to bow down and kiss them while we good people gather about mumbling gibberish for reasons we can’t fathom. Thus is our direction now. That’s where we’re headed. Into mumbling servitude and we don’t know why, how or when an’ that an’ what not an’ stuff and things.
But it’s all right. Drink your beer, watch that Tee Vee, never you mind, and don’t worry about why the house you bought twenty years ago for $145 k is now worth $1.4 million and Australia, our primary income competitors, now own those same banks you’re in debt to, debts which are so vast that they can never be paid off. The invasive Trump species go Waaa Hooo ! while we gas ourselves in our cars.
Mandate the vote. OUR vote. YOUR vote. We must vote. Mandatory voting forces people to connect. To communicate. To dissect and to come to understand. It’s a mechanism that leads to solidarity and commitment. To NOT vote is like saying you’re free to decide which side of the road you can drive on. Give that a go and see how that works out for you, and for the other poor bastard coming the other way.
Request, indeed demand a public, Royal Commission of Inquiry up and into our economy and our politic specifically focusing on the years between 1936 and 2026.

Now the vainglorious Trump! What a blasphemous show pony? He should be struck down with a huge bolt of lightning for his utter statue audacity! How anyone, who professes to be a real Christian, can sanction this abominable display of arrogance and narcissism, defies belief. So choose carefully, Luxon, we are all waiting for your denunciation of Trump’s latest shocking behaviour. No doubt the Trump supporters will continue to worship God and Trump! So many “cardboard cutouts” have no class, no moral fortitude or decency but are too weak and scared to say so! Trump won’t ever change, he’s totally NUTS!
Your theology is correct in this case and generally fits within the loving your neighbors call so maybe you should take more interest in spiritual matters? Micah 6:8 is an easy way to identify the real deal and the imposters here worshipping a golden image.
There are a few Jewish “leaders” in there as well. It is not just “evangelicals” who choose to glorify the anti-Christ.
They made the wrong choice 2 thousand years ago so why would we expect any difference today? As long as we discern people’s characters by their works and not their nationality is an important distinction though.
