  1. I remember well election night 1972. Sitting in the home of a Remuera heiress and shocking the gathered company with my elation at Kirk’s win, I was told by said heiress “my dear, do you know what this will mean for people like us?” She meant people like her, not me, as I grew up in state housing on the wrong side of the tracks. That night (I was 19) my political beliefs were galvanised. I’m glad to hear Ardern talking about fairness in 2018, since that is the fundamental principle on which NZ was founded. We are the country who redistributed land wealth in the 19th century after all.
