Three Waters repeal forces councils to hike rates by a third
Cash-strapped Far North District Council has pencilled in a 33 percent rates rise next year to start work on mandatory drinking water and wastewater upgrades, due to the new Government’s repeal of the Three Waters reforms.
That increase would be about $1000 next year for many households – more than twice what it would have been.
Northerners aren’t alone; West Coast councils are planning 30 percent-plus rates hikes too, and Hamilton ratepayers face a 25.5 percent increase.

Labour’s 3 Waters was an attempt to insulate users from the massive jump in prices while settling the ownership issues with Māori.
Because voters were easily manipulated by astroturf actors convincing them that ‘da Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaori is stealing da water’ level baseline racism, 3 Waters was scrapped and the massive prices jumps have occurred!
Our water system is under immense stress from mass immigration policies that no one wants to pay the infrastructure upgrades for and mass dairy intensification no one wants to stop!
But remind me how it’s all about the Māori’s getting too much!
There are two wars going on right now over water, and because this country is dumb as fuck thanks to a steady diet of intellectual mediocrity via Seven Sharp and The Project, you have no idea what they are.
The first war over Water is being conducted as a culture war. “Da Bloody Maaaaaaaris is stealing da water”! is the battle cry of these slack jowled redneck crackers. They never acknowledge that it was John Key selling 49% of the Hydro Assets that triggered Māori going to the Waitangi Tribunal and the Waitangi Tribunal agreed with Māori that they do have an interest in water and that it was the State’s responsibility to negotiate that interest with Māori. 3 Waters is the culmination of that interpretation of the Tribunals legal ruling, trying to concoct a Qanon conspiracy that the Māori elite are taking over is as stupid as it is stupid.
The culture war is where Groundswell and the new Stop Co-Governance racist redneck crackers are crucial, they are the foot soldiers who ring Talkback, write letters and refer to Cindy a lot on Social Media.
The second war over water is the economic political one. This is where the actual battle over water access, pricing and regulation is being fought. This is where Federated Farmers and Fonteera are fighting.
The dark money to fund the first fight is coming from wealthy cliques and individuals within the Agribusiness elites because they know if they win the culture war on this, they can continue polluting and making money.
There is no Māori conspiracy, just corporate interests manipulating your petty bigotry.
You don’t realise this because we have Seven Sharp and The Project keeping you dumb, and thanks to that brain meat mediocrity, the culture war grifters keep winning.
You are so easy to manipulate Nu Zilind, just tell a white bloke that a Māori bloke is getting something they aren’t and they will allow any interest to fuck them over!

Well what can you say Martyn. The reality is there are loads of stupid people in this country. That’s the more generous interpretation of course. The other is there are a load of cross burning incels that call you an apologist for a useless Labour Government that couldn’t explain anything. Don’t forget that at one point most of the councils were in agreement the status quo would not work. Yet here we are with f’wits in the current coalition telling people to use unknown names for government ministries. That will get things sorted. What a bunch of muppets.

With the average house price now nudging 1 million dollars, you can safely say, that we are beyond fucked..
This is now a country for generationally rich Kiwi families , rich immigrants, and their spoilt over indulged rich children.
Is the next stage going to be a change to the laws regarding the supply of water? National have history with their definition change of swimmable rivers some time ago. I suspect that pure water will be something you need to pay extra for as community supplies get relaxed standards as a cost saving measure.

What is needed now is a rates strike. Pay the rates you paid last year and not a dollar more. If your city has 80 year old or 100 year old water pipes then your elected council has been negligent, your town clerk has been negligent and central government has been negligent in its audit process.
I was against 3 waters because it stole from local people a resource/ infrastructure that they had paid for. It took away local democratic control of that most vital of infrastructure. And it laid the foundation for the privatization of that key resource.
It was another plank in the Adern government plan to centralize power. Make no mistake they did aim to be transformational but not in a way we hoped. They were not concerned with lifting people out of the trap of poverty and creating a more fair and equal society.
The transformation the Adern government wanted was the centralization of power ,authority and decision making and the destruction of local and regional democratic processes.
You do realise that this is a Nat/ACT/NZF government, right? They’ll make damn sure your water gets turned off.
But centralised under who Peter? The central government that you can vote in or out. At one point they were proposing the draft legislation include a super majority of greater than 75% to sell anything. Local government ownership doesn’t prevent privatisation either does it? I certainly don’t want Watercare in Auckland sold, or a stake sold, but that doesn’t mean it can’t happen.
Wont other parts of the country have to amalgamate as they simply don’t have the means to do what needs to be done, or is the central government going to have to run around guaranteeing loans. That has its own implications.

If Labour has explained their policy better it may have hot more traction. The policy was fronted by an angry Maori and any discussion was met with angry racist comments .The policy had merit but for a government lauding openness it was anything but.

Meh, the prices would have gone up regardless – if not directly then indirectly. The only reason this extra $1,000 is being charged, is because it costs that much more to produce. Indeed, the only thing 3 Waters argues about (for or against) is how water is financed.
3 waters was dead as soon as National won the election. Anything after that is on the new Government’s head, including massive increases in all infrastructure.
No we wanted to go earlier and put rate hikes on a lower track. Of course it was going to go up we needed the time to get immigration and foreign investment in behind rate hikes to balance the fucken budget. But nooooo, we have to go faster and higher with sharp rate hikes. Wonderful. Amazing Nutrium. Well done.
Lowering the time for rates to go up, would have just incurred more interest costs since it would have meant higher Council/govt budget deficits. If the plan is to never pay down debt (i.e. the idea that debt is somehow free), it would resulted in higher inflation. The pound of flesh is always paid for – like I said, directly or indirectly. Personally I prefer the transparency.
Robertson never got into all the little tricks he had to do to get wage inflation above inflation did he.
