  1. This ‘problem’, like most others, will only begin to solve itself when the global industrial system collapses and the human population begins to collapse because humans cause most other species to go extinct, and industrial humans cause most other species to go extinct faster than non-industrial humans. The more humans there are, the faster most other species become extinct or head towards extinction. The more industrial humans there are, the faster most other species become extinct or head for extinction. No one is sure of the number of species annihilated every day by humans because some are annihilated by ‘development’ before they are even characterized. A reasonable estimate is between 20 and 200 species per day.

Currently, in just 24 hours the human population increases by about 200,000. That is far more than the entire population of most ‘endangered’ species.

I see no indication that the human population will stop increasing until food becomes generally scare, nor much inclination that people want to abandon the consumerism which is ‘killing the planet’: quite the opposite, in fact.

  2. Nothing will change until the last Hectors and Maui’s dolphon will be gone. Then National will blame whoever it is convenient to point the finger at. That’s what Nats do best, blame everyone else.

The truth is starkly simple. The only way to protect their critically endangered species is to remove ALL human activity in their area. Anything else is pointless.
