Response to Dr Paul Moon on Women’s Boat to Gaza
In an article published on 7 October, Dr Paul Moon, Auckland University of Technology, called the women whose vessel was hijacked in international waters by the Israeli Navy, “fools”. Astonishingly, he accused Green MP Marama Davidson of having “little understanding of the geopolitical situation in the region”. Dr Moon called the courageous expedition “a ship of fools” and a “cheap media stunt”.

Is it weird to live in a country where a rugby player having sex in a toilet is a bigger story than one of our MPs being kidnapped?
Nothing makes me feel as disorientated in my own culture as the news media focus on banality over actual issues. Watching everyone suddenly develop an opinion on gossip reminds me how easily led our fellow citizens have become.
