  1. Yet again, the current government just keeps surprising everyone, by doing the smart things, and doing them well. Eventually, even the thickest tories will have to realize that having an actual government, is preferable to what amounts to a three yearly fire sale, to ensure two more years of bleeding money out of the economy, so the fire sale can be held again in the third year. That’s not governance, that’s exploitation.

  2. ‘Usually, when you get what you thought you wanted, the fire goes away.’

I think some attention should be put toward safety of product, pesticides and mold, that sort of thing. Maybe even GMO or other safety considerations.
One thing I like is the discouragement of big cannabis, it goes well with the whole Babylon bun dem rasta vibe. But kinda guarantees da existing alternatives place’s in the market tho.

  3. The reason I will probably vote yes is that it would cut out the criminal element. I would certainly vote yes if, as a corollary to this legislation, dealing meth would attract a draconian sentence, such as, let’s say, limb amputation. This utterly terrible drug damages brains, and devastates the families of users, not to mention society.

    1. What could you profit from limb amputation? Is there a market for them somewhere? The mind boggles.

  4. Exactly the way to proceed with the decriminalisation! I feel satisfied now that Cannabis Legalisation is being accomplished properly and leaves the Big Corporate entity out.
TG’s point of upping the penalty for Methamphetamine supply, is also appropriate, tho we might not want to go into the Amputated Limb business, we should treat Methamphetamine as a Capital Crime carrying MAXIMUM Penalties and long term Imprisonment. Meth is poison! It’s killing our communities and it’s NOT limited to the poor side of town – it has penetrated our Society top to bottom and we should be looking at the same time of puntive measures as we see in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and tho they are acting way over the top on drug policies, the Philippines. Meth is a scourge and needs to be treated as such in the Penal Justice System. Meth Dealers and Producers should face the full wrath of our justice System. Asset confiscation, including Brokerage Accounts or off shore investments accounts and I’d even go to the extreme of prosecuting foreign Bankers and Investment Services that handle the Offenders assets. I could be softened by the thought of adding the Death Penalty for some cases. I realise thats harsh, but the damage that this form of marching powder does to our society demands a vengeful response in the law. If you get caught with your hand in the Meth Cookie Jar you don’t deserve to be allowed in Society!
NZ’s Cannabis Legislation in it’s current form is, I feel, the best model on the planet. Thank you and Congratulations to those folks that have worked very hard on this issue and have come up with a very workable Policy! Let’s get this done and dusted in September and get on with making NZ the kinder, Friendlier and most conscientiously aware Country on Mother’s Terra Firma!
