BREAKING: It’s Over like Tova: Today FM to be axed after worst self mutilation in NZ Broadcasting History
When David Farrier and The Spinoff teamed up to character assassinate Sean Plunkett and kill off MagicTalk Radio last year, the funniest part was Farrier retelling the lived experience of a traumatised MediaWorks snowflake millennial who was so upset at having to share the same air as a toxic white cis male like Sean Plunkett, that they ran to cry in the Mediaworks toilet ONLY TO FIND OUT that MagicTalk was being played in the toilets.
Oh the lols.
Off the back of Farrier’s and The Spinoffs characters assassination, the hapless Cam Wallace killed MagicTalk and replaced it with a line up of the most mediocre opinions in NZ broadcasting.
Mediaworks got spooked by the woke Lynch mob, went woke themselves and the station melted down.
After believing an over hyped manager who had no research to back up his belief that bland mediocrity would win Talkback radio, the station plummeted to the lowest ratings ever by a Talkback station.
How many times do we gotta say it?
Go woke.
Go broke.
I find it funny that The Spinoff, who were so instrumental in cancelling MagicTalk, dare to offer an opinion on TodayFM.
Now, I may seem gleeful watching this entire cluster fuck implode, and that’s 100% true.
I did Talkback on Radio Live before it became MagicTalk and I was a political commentator on MagicTalk as well as their host of the 2020 Election Night coverage (where we called the election first), until I was culled when it mutated into the deeply flawed Today FM.
Today Mediaworks finally killed Today FM, after bleeding $9million into the branding and after burning all their credibility capital! Sources tell The Daily Blog the decision to kill off Today FM has been made and discussed weeks ago.
The madness of the level of self inflicted fuckwittery here is unequalled in NZ Broadcasting.
I pointed all of this out to Mediaworks Management when they first did this.
Watching the exact thing happen that I warned them about is glorious.
If I had a dollar for every dumb middle management fuckwit who has no idea of how to run political talkback, I’d have enough to start my own station!
What is so insane about all of this, is that it could have worked, but the Mediaworks Management refused to listen.

It’s time for some new creativity and societal comment and interest. Disruption is the name of the game.. So someone pick up on this – write a book and sell it strongly then turn it into eye media. It’s name will be ‘Far Sight, Foresight and Foreplay’. That gives a wide spectrum for anyone to handle. Free idea, first up, best dressed. Just the thing for out of work disconsolates.

I will be honest and say, and quoting the words from an excellent British comedy in regards to Today FM’s demise – I have never listened to it by the way – but “Oh Dear. What a Shame(Sham). Never Mind”.
A while back I heard our government was giving a large amount of NZ taxpayers money to the media. That is if I heard correctly. It made me wonder as to why this government would give OUR money to a media that is Hell-bent on discrediting this government in some freebie pre-electioneering campaign by a biased towards National Party media forum?????!!!
And so my listening to the media resulted in me switching off from the media because it came across that many of those in the media are in love with two things and they are the NZ National Party and the sounds of THEIR voices.
Many in the media resort to the “Gotcha” pathetic and childish style of questioning. I am so really tired and over the media today here in NZ. It has become as pathetic as Mike Hosking threatening to leave NZ for Australis.
