• Resource Management Minister Chris Bishop has announced a backdown on Auckland housing intensification legislation.
• Cabinet has agreed to reduce Auckland’s housing capacity limit from at least 2 million homes to at least 1.6 million homes, Bishop said.
• Bishop called the 2 million figure a “red herring that transformed into a lightning rod” and said the Government wanted to address Aucklanders’ concerns about growth and liveable suburbs.
• PM Christopher Luxon said the Government had listened to Aucklanders who raised “genuine concerns” about housing intensification in suburban areas.
• Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown said the reduction “never really mattered much” but: “If it calms down some worried elderly residents in Epsom then its done it’s job”.

…once again Wellington over rules Auckland, at some stage as Aucklanders you must rise up against dirty filthy Wellington telling us how shit gets done downtown!

Auckland doesn’t set the immigration rates, Wellington does and Auckland’s infrastructure gridlock is caused by that mass immigration.

When Auckland attempts ti plan for that mass immigration, once agains Central Wellington step in and screws us, and this isn’t the first time Wellington has screwed over Auckland, since this Government came to power there has been a direct drive by attack Auckland sovereignty

Central government actions that effectively overrode Auckland interests:

• Cancellation of light rail project
• Weakening of housing intensification goals
• Legal powers to override local council planning
• Fast-track project approvals controlled from Wellington
• Central control over funding for transport/public transport

These are not just procedural tweaks — they shift decision-making power away from Auckland council and communities into central government control, even where local plans had previously been agreed.
