Billy Te Kahika’s prison sentence for Covid-19 lockdown protest overturned on appeal

One of New Zealand’s most outspoken and well-known Covid-19 conspiracy theorists, Billy Te Kahika Jr, will not have to serve a prison sentence for illegally organising and attending a protest in front of TVNZ on the first day of New Zealand’s nationwide Delta variant lockdown.

In a decision released this afternoon, High Court at Auckland Justice Neil Campbell upheld the convictions for Te Kahika and co-defendant Vincent Eastwood but overturned their prison sentences, instead ordering both men be convicted and discharged.

“How’s that for an early Christmas present?” Te Kahika, otherwise known as Billy TK, told the Herald of today’s decision. “I’m a little bit of a stunned mullet.”

He should never have been sentenced to jail. He should have been convicted and discharged!

Protest against the Government is important. The Government had just passed some of the most draconian restrictions on civil liberties in peace time.

Yes Billy was a dick for protesting.

Yes Vinny was a dick going along with it, but no one caught Covid at the protest and past the emergency of the moment, now is the time to be showing mercy, not vengeance.

All we do by throwing these clowns in prison is martyr them and risk something happening to them in prison.

There was also an intense hypocrisy at throwing the book at Billy and Vinny but totally silent on the Black Lives Matter protest that happened under restrictions as well!

They should have been convicted and discharged in the first place!

All the State did was make these two clowns heroes, which is exactly what they will do with the Counterspin hosts next year during their show trial.

It’s like the State has no idea how to do anything other than radicalise people and build martyrs for the antivaxx movement.

People who should be taken seriously like the fanatic Barry Young require the full force of the law against them, and taking down Counterspin takes more skill than providing them with a show trial.

With NZ First now championing these feral lunatic antivaxxers with their Royal Inquiry into Vaccine grievance, expect the cookers to become more insane and far more likely to commit extreme acts to gain attention for their ‘truth’.

There are dangerous forces bubbling away in NZ First’s conspiracy swamp and thanks to social media platforms suppressing actual journalism, these cookers are getting lost further and further down rabbit holes of disconnected reality.
