  1. Only the equivalent of 16 Auckland houses to buy an entire nation. I in the United States corporations buy politicians for a mere few hundred thousands

  2. “It really says something about us as a people when electric scooters can generate far more attention than the end of the planet as we know it ”

    It makes perfect sense:
    1. The lime scooters are an issue to AKers right now, the climate isn’t.
    2. The lime scooters are directly actionable by AKers, the climate isn’t.

NZ can’t do dick shit about the climate given our 0.1% contribution (if indeed there is anything to be done regardless) without unified international cooperation, of which there is none.

    1. Presumably, as far as you are concerned, the correct response to rising sea levels is to carry on squandering resources building infrastructure that will soon be under water; the correct response to worsening climate that threaten our safety in the short term and our lives in the long term is to make it worse faster; the correct response to resource depletion is to use up resources quickly and leave nothing for the next generation; the correct response to loss of biodiversity that threatens to bring down the biosphere is to ignore it; the correct response to ocean acidification that threatens to make the oceans unrecognisable and eliminate life as we know it is to keep pumping CO2 into them.

There was a time when people made a stand for what was right and got supported for doing so. In the consumeristic world of modern NZ such people get vilified.

The good news is that the consumer society will be down the drain in less than a decade; the bad news is it has done so much damage recovery is impossible.

      407 ppm and rising
