One, and let’s be honest it really is all that we can cling to, one thing that is good to have come out of the Trump tragedy is that there is a clear halt now in America to free market corporate globalisation.

As pundits and the mainstream media scramble to decipher the political earthquake that has erupted with the win of Trump, here are the winers, losers and what went wrong as I reckon it.

We tell our children not to be bullies, not to be racist and not to be sexist. Tonight a man who has breached every standard of civility will win the Presidency of the United States. We are a lesser civilisation today.

Judith Collins could rule on this right now, but she won’t because she knows that NZers love punishment over justice. Our system is corrupt and racist and we like it that way because it mostly benefits white people. Letting a Maori woman out early to die with her whanau is just not an option.

I think Gareth Morgan’s announcement of a Party vote only Party focused on pragmatic solutions over riding dogma would have a huge appeal to urban male voters who vote National by default. They are educated and uncomfortable with the inequality around them but wouldn’t vote Green or Labour.

Labour need to start thinking about where they should focus their strengths if they want to be the backbone of the next progressive government. Wonk wonk from Wellington Central isn’t enough.
