Auckland Transport – perpetually Not in Service
It was the Santa Parade in Auckland in the weekend, the annual event where everyone comes along to collectively worship the Coco-Cola mascot and allow children to pray to the Gods of consumerism.
Bah-humbug. I’m the Marx who stole Christmas.
You go because your kids love it. This year my wee darling of joy was actually in the parade, so I went with all the passion of any proud father, loudly screaming ‘that’s my child’ to anyone unfortunate enough to be near me. She had a lovely time and I enjoyed spoiling her.
Nice day, friendly crowds, well done all those concerned in putting it on right?
Not quite.
Auckland Transport utterly let down everyone in Auckland (again). They promoted free parking for anyone who came to the Santa Parade but didn’t put on any extra busses to get people out of Auckland.
That’s right, free car parking – no extra busses.
It took me 90 minutes to get out of central Auckland, for many others on social media it took hours.
Another total failure by Auckland Transport, the ‘Council Controlled Organisation’ that has no actual Council Control over it.

Thanks Peter – I can’t wait. Maybe we advocates light and commuter rail to Sky City conference centre with the rate payers paying for the conference centre and pokies in the trains – more of our transport woes will be solved! sarc.

Why do we vote for our local representatives in local body elections again with the CCO model that gives them no say?
It’s called Democracy SuperCity Lite.
Or the pretence of democracy while siphoning away public resources un transparency as possible.
