  1. Well, with the relentless focus our media has on the weather, no wonder we believe climate change is upon us. Heck a weather event only needs to be forecast, and its headline news. Not much, if any, context – history – is given thereafter. Meanwhile, we have a genocide taking place, right before our very eyes, and yet this slaughter and the actions, namely the inaction of our govt, ditto most governments, in trying to stop this slaughter, is near non-existent within this very same media. Understandable, this latter point, given the near religious faith most people have in mainstream media. Thrust centre stage what they want us to hear, bury what they don’t – they – being the money-bags crowd who hold greatest sway over both mainstream media and the political class. The mainstream news is a reflection of their interests, not our own, best we learn this and commit it to memory….

  2. I hope BOB and TREV are watching this and realising that have loads of money will not save your arse from nature when she fights back .Just the begining boys

    1. Bob the fart, and Trev tory brown nose are just trollers–so try and disregard the whimps.

  3. Have some cash on hand and a “go bag” of essential documents and a solar radio etc. at all times is what I say. And a more extensive survival back pack if you can afford it, or just put together your own.

Climate change is out to get you, tipping points have been reached. Not sure what the trigger point will be, but direct action has to be taken against the corporates and industrial farming.

  4. A very dry 6 months there but also : fuel loads not cleared, Democrat mayor (currently in Ghana) cut fire department funding (17 million), reservoirs left empty for cultural reasons, Health and safety rules slowing early fire intervention.
    A DEI doomloop.

  5. It doesnt help that LA cut the fire department to pay for more police spending. US governments would rather spend money on police and prisons than services that help people.
There are more prison cells in the USA than there are social housing units.

    1. Headline NZ media forgot to publish.
75 children killed in Gaza this first week of 2025 from US weaponry.

      Now that’s an APOCALYPSE.

      1. I hope these burned out people now realise what arseholes their country is by funding Israel in its sick manifesto. Now they will have some idea how those Palastinians are feeling .

  6. So, if we don’t lower our carbon emissions, the US will burn? Struggling to see the downside here.

    1. The downside is that if we don’t destroy the ammurican empire (incidentally, the US military puts out more carbon dioxide than the entirety of NZ) and its masters we will burn too. As if another reason was needed

  7. Getty Images will buy up all the footage-to-headage of this huge fire and then withhold it, secrete it away; (hide not release – an example of our two-faced way of looking at things in one word!) And we can pretend it never happened. It was just some nightmare scenario from Hollywood…

This un-knowing would be similar to the banning of a book about a huge fire in Dresden WW2 by a USA educational establishment for good reasons as follows!
One of the best-known attempts to ban Slaughterhouse-Five happened in 1982, when Island Trees Union Free Public School District removed a selection of books, including Slaughterhouse-Five, from junior high and high school libraries for being “anti-American, anti-Christian, anti-Semitic, and just plain filthy.” The …12 Sept 2019
Kurt Vonnegut, “Slaughterhouse-Five” – The Banned Books Project – Carnegie Mellon University https://bannedbooks.library.cmu.edu

The book ‘Slaughterhouse 5’ starts off with the fire-bombing of Dresden, Germany in 1945.Slaughterhouse-Five, or, The Children’s Crusade: A Duty-Dance with Death – is a 1969 semi-autobiographic science fiction-infused anti-war novel by Kurt Vonnegut.

[There are connections with Vonnegut’s own past in this book. The character Billy Pilgrim survives his war experiences including the fire-bombing of Dresden. He participates in life post-war but has periods outside normality as we know it.]
Billy is eventually killed in 1976, at which point the United States has been partitioned into twenty separate countries and attacked by China with thermonuclear weapons. He gives a speech in a baseball stadium in Chicago in which he predicts his own death and proclaims that “if you think death is a terrible thing, then you have not understood a word I’ve said.” Billy soon after is shot with a laser gun by an assassin…

Kurt Vonnegut’s response to critics of the book – ‘When confronted with the question of how the desire to improve the world fits with the notion of time presented in Slaughterhouse-Five, Vonnegut responded “you understand, of course, that everything I say is horseshit.” ‘

    Later years 1980s on:
Galapagos was a brilliant look at Vonnegut’s concerns that the “oversized human brain” was ironically leading mankind to possible extinction. Vonnegut also published his third major collection of essays, Palm Sunday.
Throughout the 1980s and ’90s, Vonnegut acted as a powerful spokesman for the preservation of our Constitutional freedoms, for nuclear arms control and for the protection of the earth’s fragile biosphere.

As the new century began, Vonnegut continued to try to be, as he said, “a responsible elder in our society,” decrying the militarization of our count[r]y after the terrorist attacks of 2001.
In his last novel, Timequake, and his last collection of essays, A Man without a Country, Vonnegut powerfully expressed his sense that corporate greed, overpopulation and war would win out in the end over simple humanity. As he ruefully apologized to those who would come after him, “We could have saved the world, but we were just too damned lazy.”

Kurt died in USA in 2007. Quotes: “We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.”
“If you were to bother to read my books, to behave as educated persons would, you would learn that they are not sexy, and do not argue in favor of wildness of any kind. They beg that people be kinder and more responsible than they often are.” https://www.vonnegutlibrary.org/biography/

  8. Thank goodness Megan and Harry Sussex have added their tuppence. I’m sure we are all relieved they have spoken.

    1. Harry likely thinks the media made this up and’ll be looking for someone to sue, and Meg’s desperate to upstage the Princess of Wales ‘s birthday, so silver lining territory for this despicable duo.

      1. But then Harry and Megan don’t claim to be divinely appointed to rule, sponge off the taxpayer while not paying tax, and getting pegged. So there’s a bright side

  9. Quite a bit of schadenfreude here in these comments and many have no useful facts or constructive ideas for us for learnings from this. In fact I wouldn’t want to live near many of you, you backbiting, envious, angry sourpusses taking pleasure in rich people or those who have expensive homes having problems or being burnt out. There is no room for hahas. We will all suffer eventually so let’s cut the crap, think and get to what we can learn and do to help in our own and others’ situation.

Have a dose of satire as medicine for sour digestions which is making you sick.
We will all go together when we go from Tom Lehrer
