Animal Rights Activists claim Rodeo on last legs in NZ

Direct Animal Action who protested the latest Rodeo in Whangerai yesterday believe public opposition has reached a new level whereby Rodeo’s in New Zealand are now on their last legs.

 

“Since last year’s protests, the number of people attending ban rodeo protests have doubled, especially amongst rural communities who are equally shocked by the animal cruelty”, says Direct Animal Action spokesperson Apollo Taito.

 

“NZ Rodeo Cowboys Association have responded to criticism by restricting the use of videoing rodeos. This is an attempt to censor distressing images of animals suffering from the general public”.

 

“We’re pleased the Greens have a Private Members Bill that will get rid of the worst aspects of rodeo like calf roping. But we’re calling on the new Government to take stronger action by banning rodeo full stop,” says Mr. Taito

 

“We urge all New Zealander’s who care about ending animal cruelty to join us for our final protest of the year on Saturday 17th February, Te Awamutu in the Waikato”.

 

“NZ Rodeo is on its last legs, we must and can end this”.
