Former Labour Party leader Andrew Little considers run for Wellington Mayor
Former Labour Party leader and Minister Andrew Little is actively considering running for Wellington Mayor.
Little – who is currently a consultant for a law firm in Wellington – has confirmed to RNZ he is considering taking a tilt at the October election, saying he would have more to say soon.
He left Parliament following Labour’s 2023 election defeat after first entering politics in 2011.
Little has been sought after by Labour to run on the party ticket for mayor – up against incumbent Tory Whanau, who is running on the endorsement of the Green Party.
He shot to the party leadership in 2014, but stood down just two months out from the 2017 election, making way for Jacinda Ardern, who went on to be prime minister.
I’ve detailed the awfulness of Tory Whanau’s Mayoralty and noted the Greens had no choice but to back her because the talent pool is so shallow. Andrew Little however is:
- Tested
- Is hard as nails
- Is actually Left wing and not aesthetically left wing
- Can work with people across the spectrum
- Is not Tory Whanau.
Andrew Little would be an amazing Mayor and I believe if he stood, he’d beat Whanau.

Little should be good. Hopefully Labour will sweep out the rest of the Green dross in Wellington.
Andrew is not Tory Whanau, ergo Andrew would be a top notch Wellington Mayor. Ditto: Tom, Dick, Harry, John, Bill, Peter, Ethelred, Harriet, Thomasina, Johanna, Ethel, Wilhelmina, anyone but Tory.

My, we have slipped in Aotearoa/NZ for a country that was the first to give women the vote we have gone backwards. We seem to have imported the American patriarchal, misogyny, racist, discriminative and far right bullshit into our country. It’s time we Kiwis stood up and said we are not going to stand for this rubbish and send it back to where it belongs, cause that nasty vile shit doesn’t belong here.
Also, I have no problem with Andrew standing for mayor, but I do have a problem with the way our women councilors and politicians are being treated.
She supported selling the airport. How is there any form of abuse she doesn’t deserve?

Yeah Tori has had it tough but she does herself no favours and doesn’t come across as a serious person. At all. She comes across as a fuckin idiot who shoots herself in the foot every time and can’t remain consistent for a second. Why she even wants the job when she is clearly not cut out for it is anybody’s guess but ego comes to mind.
Andrew might well be a good fit for the job But you have to feel for Tory who was up against it from day one being a brown female who inherited a toxic pile of shit council who did not really care about the job at hand .
Hope fully all the toxic shit gets cleaned out this time and the new lot start by sacking the wellington water board and get water back on track .
