Treasury pushes for asset sales as it rings alarm bells over state of Government’s finances
Treasury is nudging the Government to sell state assets that are underperforming or are no longer fit for purpose.
It is continuing to sound alarm bells over the Crown’s finances being on an “unsustainable” path forward.
The Crown isn’t bringing in enough revenue to keep the lights on. Debt is not only being used for capital expenditure, but to cover operating costs.
This is occurring as the books haven’t yet recovered from the period around the Covid pandemic and Cyclone Gabrielle, and costs associated with an ageing population are set to soar.
Treasury has repeatedly made the point that future governments will need to hike taxes and/or cut spending to prevent the Crown’s books from spiralling further into the red.
The ease with which these rich right wing pricks use your petty culture war bigotries to distract you with malice while they quietly mutilate the state truly is an amazing Kiwi super power.

We have a long history privatizing state assets to repay debt only to continue to see that debt grow then forfeit any returns from that asset to the economy.
That’s how neoliberalism works by engineering a ” financial shock or crisis ” to justify a privatisation and continued austerity. Luxon is already committed to a new sell off when he gets reelected.
It will come as no surprise when they declare the next financial shock to justify the harsh economic medicine they will impose on New Zealanders.

So set up a parallel polity, put enough money into it to get it going with similarly concerned and committed citizens. (Not everyone that mouths stuff is concerned about the community, has true citizen concern.)

That would be a start – to get your ideas into some sort of order and see what is practical and how to work with that mindset of the Prout people even if you don’t want to follow them entirely. It would be a positive start to run a theoretical, practice government, perhaps in a different configuration than at present (not with rich people at top, or armed forces, or strict authoritarians or prating religious purists, or politically ideological ‘isms’ taking power, or sexually nulled or aligned people, but with ‘practical and kindly’ as a by-line for valid working group, with agreement that there will be no ‘terminators’ joining and becoming overbearing. The parameters and methods must be agreed on and kept to, or it shows a lack of esprit de corps and needs abandoning. Get the respect for every aspect of the plan agreed to first, and any later disagreements deserve a short discussion, notes on the main points, and if not seen as immediately important and relevant set aside, for the term of the project, which will also be set.
A Sims type thing would be another type of project and be understood by all the tech-saturated heads. We need to make a change from just reinforcing our knowledge that the present government is rotten and going putrid; if you don’t like the stench get out of the WC and over to the kitchen and cook up something hot and nourishing!
