John Key was smart enough to hide his wealth (he always dressed ‘down’ to casual CEO level).
He had a gut sense where middle NZ was and he was happy to give in terms of minimum wage rises and welfare increases if it meant holding the centre.
Over his 3 terms, it was his gut feeling that replaced National Party Philosophy and Values.
When he left, National didn’t regain a sense of purpose and what quickly replaced Key’s gut were hollow principles that were nothing more than donor interests.
The last election was a grudge fuck against Labour driven by post Covid bitterness, people voted National without appreciating what that meant under the weak leadership of Luxon trading in the common good for their donors interests.
A year of this alongside the racial divisiveness has spooked the country.
Polling is bad for National and the Right are cannibalising each other as ACT comes for National’s reactionary vote while squeezing NZF under the threshold.
The country is sicker and more hungry thanks to this Government’s Austerity Agenda…
- One in four children (27.0 percent) lived in households where food ran out often or sometimes, up from 21.3 percent in 2022/23
- 10.7 percent of adults had an unmet need for professional help for their emotions, stress, mental health or substance use in 2023/24 – more than double the rate of 4.9 percent in 2016/17
- One in 11 adults (9.1 percent) and 8.2 percent of children aged 2-14 years ate the recommended amount of vegetables
- Fewer than half of adults (46.6 percent) met physical activity guidelines, ie at least 2.5 hours of moderate-intensity activity in the past week – down from 50.9 percent five years ago
- One in three adults (1.5 million) classified as obese, rising to nearly half of those living in the most deprived neighbourhoods
- Nearly half of adults (44.9 percent) reported unmet need for dental care due to cost. Rates were worse for Māori, Pacific, disabled, people living in the most deprived neighbourhoods and those aged 25-54 years
- One in four adults (25.7 percent) and one in five children (18.5 percent) reported that “time taken to get an appointment was too long” as a barrier to visiting the GP in the 12 months prior to the 2023/24 survey. This is higher than the previous year (21.2 percent for adults and 14.8 percent for children). In 2021/22, the figure was 11.6 percent.

We are sicker and poorer and this Government has no solution other than more cuts to public services.
Insolvencies are up, cost of living continues to bite and we have a Government who have given a pittance back in tax cuts for the poor while cranking up user pays.
What’s the point of a $14 a week tax cut if costs are increasing by $30 a week?
If Trump implements his tariffs it will see the US dollar spike.
We buy our petrol in US dollars.
A shockwave like tariffs could see our petrol prices spike which will immediately push inflation up while job losses explode.
We could have the dreaded Stagflation.

Yes, and to make matters worse there will be no evidence-based research with the funding cuts to Marsden Grants favoring the governments rich business mates who want more and more including free research dollars to make them and their companies even richer. And last week they didn’t hold back from expressing their joy.

Perhaps its high time this issue received prime time investigative time. There’s more than enough evidence to show that this crap has never benefited the general populace. Perhaps I’m wrong, perhaps there’s evidence the other way. This effin issue, this shonky economic ideology needs to be put to bed for good. so what have we got from this government of waste .Every thing put in to the long term future of NZ by the last government has been cancelled .New Schools ,Hospitals ,Cook Straight Ferries just to name a few OH and dont forget all the new houses that have now been scrapped even though the hard yards setting up all the water ,sewage and ground work has been done ,so now we have hundreds of empty sections ready to build on sitting there growing weeds .Next your shitty mate Bishop will be giving them to his mates for free to build high priced houses on .For 5 years 50k houses were built in NZ ,now we might be lucky to build 20k per year .All the money invested in training apprentices has now been gifted to AUS who have a flock of well trained tradies turning up on their shores .Thats the definition of Waste ,
