  1. Sooo.. They had his car, and most likely all his details.. When would some genius in the department have figured that they could pick him up at their leisure? Or is plain old common sense no longer “cool”? So the cop is grabbing at him as he states he suspects the “perp” has drunk more than he alleges.. What happened to informing him why they are arresting him, and asking him to submit to the cuffs, before trying a sneaky grab..? What are the criteria for hiring these morons? The man was trying to do the right thing it seems.. We were all told that if you are tired, or too affected to drive, then pull off the road, and sleep it off.. The drive through would have been closed I assume when he chose that spot to have a snooze… For sure he deserved to die for that..

Global rage next must switch to the ‘lack of climate change action’ asap; – as we can’t save anyone when the tripping point comes within 8 yrs so time to wake up.

The world may already have crossed a series of climate tipping points, according to a stark warning from scientists. This risk is “an existential threat to civilisation”, they say, meaning “we are in a state of planetary emergency”.
    https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/nov/27/climate-emergency-world-may-have-crossed-tipping-points

“Tipping points are reached when particular impacts of global heating become unstoppable, such as the runaway loss of ice sheets or forests. In the past, extreme heating of 5C was thought necessary to pass tipping points, but the latest evidence suggests this could happen between 1C and 2C.”

  3. Politicised Police unions you say?
I take it you noticed Chris Cahill of NZ police association lying about gun crime statistics and publicly pushing for removing civil rights and arming police? Separation of police and government? Police including commissioner Coster wrote the new law..

Well look which organisation lied to the public about licensing the chch shooter:
    https://www.stuff.co.nz/

Police sources, who include both current and former staff who spoke to Stuff on the condition of anonymity, say the licence would not have been granted if proper procedure was followed.

Another arms officer is supposed to check the applicant has been properly vetted before issuing the licence, yet no red flag was raised about the terrorist’s incomplete file.

The terrorist’s licence application came at a time when the arms office in Dunedin district was overloaded by applications.

A source said Dunedin staff would at times call their colleagues in police headquarters, crying on the phone due to the pressure of their workload. Licence applications were being shunted through at speed.

The wrongful licensing of the terrorist was the result of a firearms control regime that was destroyed by years of mismanagement by police, a police source told Stuff.

Sources said police districts had for years underfunded their arms offices and cut staff that managed firearms licence applications; numerous projects to improve the firearms licensing system were planned at police headquarters, only to be halted before they began; and both police arms officers and underpaid vetting staff were pushing through licence applications without proper scrutiny. “

“Police quashed the concern in the days after the terror attack, saying all correct processes were followed and the terrorist’s application would be reviewed.”

    So a bare faced lie.
The underfunding of firearm licensing involved around 50% of the budget for this being used by police for “other”

Where is the accountability? Commissioner Bush conveniently retired with honours before the royal commission..
    Nash? Cahill?

Black lives? 51 Muslim lives don’t seem to matter to these people.

    1. I hope that the new Police Commissioner has some new approaches that will bind us all together instead of hammering us apart. I hate some of the stuff I see on television – full of negativity, violence etc. We are being fed such a crock that if police are going to be a good force in our lives, they may need to have reorientation classes about different ways of handling crime. They might even be able to massage the pollies and the media to encourage better behaviour and understanding of people who are in regular contact with police.

The economic policies of neolib are combined with their ideas of innate behaviour of people that are limited and disparaging of all humanity. Those in neo-liberal economics seek in their slimy, protean way to treat us as the people they devise us to be, and influence our behaviour to meet their limited horizons.

Police need to break through from this approach. NZ Police could adopt new ways and make breakthroughs that will put us up with the world leaders in being ethical humans. We’ve done it with Covid-19 by sticking to our knitting – ie pulling together for good outcomes, that is the vast majority of us anyway. Let’s look at what other intelligent countries are doing that are trying to live in enlightened progressive societies? Pick out good systems from various countries – don’t look at the English-speaking ones as they are all declining like a house with rotten foundations – adopt the best from the ‘foreigners’, then monitor them to see how they are going here. Finally we would have all the best systems, and be a world-beater again in a positive way, not a negative Rogernomics/Treasury/stink economics way.

    1. I can’t see what your point is Sam and haven’t time to look through a firm’s detailed advertisement.
A short smart remark about your negative feelings isn’t worth a comment. We all have the same so what’s your particular point.

      1. Sorry about that Greywarbler, It is nothing negative. I saw news that the world is healing, because lots of factories, powerplants and etc. are not operating due to lockdown. But seems that the condition of climate change is not improving.
