ACT believe Hunters deserve representation, but not Māori

Ummm, WTF?

Let me see if I can get this completely straight.

Hunters deserve representation but Māori don’t?

Māori representation = bad but Hunter representation = good?

If ACT weren’t such a malignant force for evil, the double standards and hypocrisy would be hilarious but with the looming Treaty Principles Hate stunt, the attack on worker rights, the abolishing of Māori representation on local councils and the Regulatory Standards Bill, it’s all an enormous reminder that scratch the surface of their bullshit argument and all you have left is the festering scab of prejudice.

It’s exactly like ACT’s bullshit ‘Free Speech’ law…

Government to change free speech rules for universities

The coalition is tweaking university regulations to curb what it says is an increasingly “risk-averse approach” to free speech.

The proposed changes will set clear expectations on how universities should approach freedom of speech issues.

Each university will then have to adopt a “freedom of speech statement” consistent with the central government’s expectations.

The changes will also prohibit tertiary institutions from adopting positions on issues that do not relate to their core functions.

…there are two issues here.

The first is yay, New Zealand Universities need to prioritise freedom of speech on Campus.

This matters!

We have seen gender critical feminists attempt to debate Trans issues on campus and they have been shut down by precious woke activists, so you can’t pretend free speech on campus isn’t an issue (thanks to our precious woke activists).

We need our universities to have powerful new ideas and be bastions of free speech because they are trusted spaces that have the mana and intellectual rigour to be environments for such debate, so great that they will have to focus on promoting free speech HOWEVER in the next breath, ACT declare that they will ban the very Institutions they are demanding Free Speech from to be able to use their own free speech…

The changes will also prohibit tertiary institutions from adopting positions on issues that do not relate to their core functions.

…and that is then second issue.

You can’t demand free speech and then garrote it in the same argument!

This isn’t about Free Speech, this is about gagging Institutions from participating in civil society, that’s the very OPPOSITE of Free Speech!

This, like so much of the ACT agenda is a Trojan Horse that pretends to be about promoting a value we all want (‘democracy’) while actually removing it!

The question really is how long will it take the rest of NZ to wake up to this?

  1. What are the ‘core functions’ of universities? Which issues differ from them and which do not?
    ( I apologise for wasting the time of those readers who have already spotted the obvious potential for blanket bans on debates like ” why do people support political parties that then betray their voters?’ or ‘Do ACT supporters actually know any poor people?’).
     In my own time at university I engaged in debate and informative discussion with people with all types of backgrounds( ex-convicts, police officers, armed services personnel, clergy, diverse sexuality) and relished opportunities to learn something from all of them. I still take university courses now in my retirement. It keeps me mentally alert to debate with people who are different to me.
    I thought this exchange of all kinds of information and broadening of horizons is the Core Function of tertiary education but maybe I was wrong and the hallowed halls just exist to turn out Seymour clones and Wankers at Wanaka.

    there he is picking up his $250,000 per annum salary for being an arrogant shit stirring dweeb.

    Now he and his finance cohorts, Luxon and Willis, have absolutely fucked the country economically and socially for the next 10years at least, he says he now wants

  6. Once universities are forced to be businesses, they are compelled to grow a brand. Seymour is complaining that they got their brand wrong. You couldn’t make this up.
