    Does it follow that the survival of the Assad regime in Syria has actually been a good thing for the region if not so good for the Syrian victims of Assads brutality. Without Assad and the support of the Russian military the Caliphat by now could have over run Syria and on into Jordan and Lebanon and be threatening Israel Turkey and the Russian provinces to the east. How stable would the region be now in those circumstances.
