McSkimming fallout: ‘About 20’ cases in review of police devices
…the most insane part of the McSkimming’s scandal (apart from senior officers protecting him, apart from the cover ups, apart from keeping the civilian Government in the dark, apart from actually charging the complainant) the most insane part was that his beastiality and child porn use would never have been discovered if he hadn’t been investigated.
This has led to a quick look at Police using their phones and laptops and that quick once over has discovered 20 other cops.
There’s no way it is just 20 others, but the ‘few bad apples’ mantra can’t start becoming double digits, that’s hard for the bosses to cover up.
The truth is that it’s been a ‘few bad apples’ in a system that makes bad apples.
When Green MP Tamatha Paul suggested earlier this year that some parts of the community didn’t feel safe with the Police, the entire establishment erupted in calls against her for daring to imply the Police weren’t the greatest group of blokes in the entire Southern Hemisphere and that such talk was bordering on witchcraft.
Those voices so quick to criticise Tamatha are all very quiet post McSkimming’s aren’t they?
I think NZ has a cultural hangover from our settler days.
The NZ Police Force grew out of the Mounted Constabulary, a thug force who was ostensibly put together to go bash the bejesus out of drunk Māori at the edge of the settlement.
The unspoken deal between white settler NZ and the Mounted Constabulary was, ‘we will turn a blind eye to whatever heavy handed tactics you want to use, as long as you make us feel safe’.
That mindset of turning a blind eye to Police tactics to protect us from our fears of the things that go bump in the night has extended all the way from our settler culture to today.
I have been banging on for decades now that the IPCA simply does not have the investigative powers, the resources or the legislative structure to provide appropriate oversight of the NZ Police, (criticisms I might add that have been responded to as sacrilege and heresy for most of the time I have been making them), well after McSkimmings and all that has been revealed there, it seems like most rational people now see the enormous need for an Independent guard dog against Police corruption.
In 1943, NZ’s Ambassador to America, Sir George Laking, reflected on the surprising ability of the NZ Government to pass authoritarian powers against the citizens of NZ with little to no resistance from Kiwis by saying, “Much that was accomplished in those early years was possible only because of the absence of any detailed or sustained public interest in the issues”.
We have become experts in a hyper laid back culture of turning a blind eye.
Remember – there is no depression in NZ, or corruption and we don’t know how lucky we are.
It’s just a few bad apples.

And ignored the complainants emails because “I only do stuff about the electorate”.
And didn’t escalate it to her brother.
Sounds like she’s great at her job (sarc).

Jeez the plot thickens, technically the Minister is right I guess that he was not informed by Parliamentary staff (even his sister) likely she gave him a heads though! Snakey lot.
20 that is a lot of bad apples when it only takes one bad apple to make a bunch rotten.
It is a pity there are any bad apples but 20 out of 15000 is not too bad . Day in and day out they deal with the underbelly of society so some will get turned to the darknside .
They are doing a good job in bringing down the crime figures from the highs of the last government.
So, Trevor, where’s your line if you have one? If next week 20 has grown to 40, will it still be okay in your mind?
Anybody who works for the police needs Integrity and if it becomes clear integrity is missing, they’re in the wrong job. Same for teachers, doctors, priests, mental health workers etc: they all work with people they hold power over and the only way not to abuse that power is the clear presence and high standard of Integrity.

Your standards in community and relationship may be as low for yourself as they are for the police and that means that you’d never be my friend because I wouldn’t trust you. You could be one of the 20 you see?

The head of the Police Association was on RNZ earlier this year baldly stating they can’t be trusted.
Any comment on the false drink driving stats submitted by over 100 of these fraudsters?

I have known many cops over the years and a common thread from the blue bellies is…“we deal with the mad, the bad and the sad and talk to lying degenerates every working day” which they somehow use to justify being free agents or bent. Yes the cops deal with gruesome car crashes and help find lost trampers–which tow truck drivers, paramedics and civil defence could do just as well.
Big change in Police culture is due.
Hahahahahh imagine suggesting that this is a serious investigation. I guarantee to you, that given that these 20 cops who came up when the lazy IT nerds at police just looked at who had directly accessed P*rnhub.com from their work PCs over the past week, that 20/20 of them are likely guilty of accessing material that would- if the cops found it in the browser history of someone they were going after, which could be for perfectly legitimate (like being a criminal s*ck of s**t) or completely illegitimate (supporting Palestinian human rights, or asking journalists why they haven’t investigated David Seymour’s links to convicted pedophiles)- be submitted to the Censor to be classified as ‘objectionable’ in the same way as actual child porn is.
That would include any mention of ‘stepdaughters’, sections of video in which the participants are shown to urinate, or light choking or other behavior that NZ’s Big Sister Caroline Flora decides are ‘degrading’ to women. Which is to say, banning much of ‘mainstream’ pornography today.
I’m not saying that all porn shouldn’t be banned. That’s a reasonable position that, enforced by a serious and decent government, would generally improve societal mores. What I don’t support is:
1) Pretending that the degenerate pornography which every institution in our society promotes, and claims is artistic expression, is legal- because it isn’t.
2) The current National/ACT push to bring in laws that would link the consumption of pornography to legal IDs, allowing whoever is in charge of administering that to just arbitrarily target anyone who goes on porn sites because much of the content there meets the standards of obscenity.
3) The light treatment these cops are getting, when any of us who regularly access internet pornography would have been done for ‘obscenity’ if we became the target of a police investigation that looked at the full content of videos that pop up in the ‘related content’ while having a toss.

Exactly but McSkimings went several leagues beyond what the word smut describes. How about the other twenty? And the 100 or so fraudsters? What in the hell is going on in the NZ police force. Criminal force would be more apt at this point.

Maori were I think introduced to alcohol by settlers, though had used fermentation as did the Koreans with their fermented kimchi cabbage and radish. Maori used *fermentation with other foods similarly. They weren’t in the western habit of drinking until maudlin or berserk using alcohol. But settlers ushered them into the cash system with payments for their wild pig catches, then selling them butchered pieces along with alcohol. We know who came out on top.
