Last week a tsunami of outrage exploded as alt-Right Culture War Trolls breathlessly told New Zealand that there was a pedophile ring operating inside the Green Party with Internet Sleuths proving beyond the reasonable doubt of a Salem witch trial that non-binary activist Benjamin Doyle was using secret pedophile hieroglyphics alongside the word ‘bussy’ to prove a vegan Epstein was in our midst.
Turns out all those alt-Right Culture War Trolls were being played by a NZFirst Hate Troll who had tricked them all with the most flimsy evidence every manufactured to push this smear and within about 72 hours the entire shambles of an allegation started imploding as The Post outed the NZFirst Hate Troll as Ryhs Williams.
In the time it took to dox Ryhs, the damage had already been done with hundreds of death threats made against Benjamin AND their child!

Yes Benjamin was naive when they refused to remove Bussy captions from their private Instagram taken a year before they became an MP, but the deplorable way in which they and their whanau were denigrated and accused of the most appalling crimes with zero evidence whatsoever was startling even for those of us hardened by Dirty Politics. They have had deaths threats made against their child FFS! It has been a terrible episode of how cruel the alt-Right can truly be.

I will stand against the despicable smear on Green MP Benjamin Doyle every single day of the week because it is a obscene character assassination by the alt-Right Culture War Trolls.
Child abuse is a terrible, despicable and horrific plague on our community and we must always fight it and BECAUSE it is such a terrible, despicable and horrific crime the level of evidence must be high.
The supposed ‘evidence’ is the word ‘bussy’ and pedophilic hieroglyphics which would be hilarious if it weren’t so despicable.

I still roll my eyes over the Green candidate selection process and the lack of wider perspective their candidate’s virtue signalling might cause a mainstream electorate.

And the Greens should have seen the political risk before it ever came to public attention. To not do so was naive, incompetent and put Doyle and their family at risk.
As usual, they are very much a victim of their own preoccupation with identity politics.
And boooooy, did they play victim.
Co-leaders Chlöe Swarbrick and Marama Davidson gave a master class in deflection.
Persecuted matched with condescension is a tricky look to pull off, but the Greens have nailed it.
Swarbrick framed the controversy as an attack on the LGBTQ+ community. While it’s true that Doyle faced homophobic abuse, she ignored the core issue: whether the content of the posts was appropriate for an MP.
Words matter, especially in politics, and regardless of Doyle’s intention, some people were uncomfortable with, or just genuinely confused, by the posts.
But Swarbrick shut down concerns, making out they were only rooted in prejudice and intolerance. (Hands down the best bit of this performance was when she interrupted her earnest lecture on not policing language to tick off a reporter who tripped up over Doyle’s pronouns.)
This refusal to acknowledge mistakes was just as bad faith as the trolls who whipped up the controversy in the first place.
The Greens have allowed their factions enormous power to push their own woke candidates and this means the Party list resembles more an alienating vegan Kink munch more than a serious political party.
The next candidate after Benjamin on the list pole danced to raise funds for the last election…
…the ‘lived experience’ groups inside the Greens have been given enormous selection of candidate powers and they have propelled these Identity Politics candidates up the list, the Greens need a good hard long look at themselves and the candidates they are promoting simply because of their diversity.
The bitter shallowness of Identity Politics has replaced the power of class solidarity and we saw the ultimate showdown of this in the American election where poor white people have become as easily triggered as middle class woke activists and now see themselves as the victim, and when white poor people start seeing themselves in the same victimhood language as the woke, we are in an enormous amount of danger.

This would all be delightfully absurd if it weren’t destroying a young father and their son and their whanau and inspiring a vast harvest of death threats from people who read conspiracy theories like this and then patriotically go get a shot gun.

On the Benjamin Doyle issue, stand against the Lynch mob!
Ben certainly does advocate for choice when it comes to puberty blockers.
I understand Ben’s argument and I appreciate its value and there are certainly valid points made in their argument.
I however am bound by the science and the Cass Review forces us to step back and ask serious and significant questions alongside safeguards to ensure an individuals right to be who they are is sacrosanct.
My disagreement with Ben by degrees aside – YOU CAN NOT POINT TO BENS SUPPORT OF PUBERTY BLOCKERS TO INSINUATE THAT THEY DESERVED TO BE DEFAMED IN THE MOST APPALLING MANNER WITH NO FUCKING EVIDENCE!
You just can’t.
Benjamin represents their community and I support them in that representation EVEN THOUGH I disagree with them on some elements EVEN THOUGH the woke did themselves no favours when they had the cultural power in 2016 and misused it and alienated the rest of the Left – EVEN THOUGH ALL THAT – Ben in no way shape or form deserved the Tsunami of death threats against them AND THEIR CHILD based on the Internet sleuthing of alt-Right Trolls with zero fucking evidence whatsofuckingever!

Knowingly falsely accusing any person of sexual crimes should probably be a special new category of harassment / defamation don’t you think? I suggest a time-out period preventing public naming and shaming of any accused, length of say 6 months after informing the relevant law enforcement agency, and have seen them do nothing to investigate, to provide immunity from said prosecution. The accused should be notified about the investigation after 3 months so the cops have time to investigate, and so accussed can become aware of what might happen in 3 months so they can hit back and trigger this law (if they are innocent?).
Assuming the Green MP is innocent, it is outrageous and I expect the people involved to be charged. If not…. why don’t you and me launch a private prosecution against them? That has got to be slander isn’t that illegal?
Assuming the opposite, they should have contacted the police initially and then allowed them the space to investigate. Since they failed to do this (I assume), makes it seem very much like a smear campaign.
