    1. The day of rekoning will come to those whom pray on the weak and defenceless; – hear this you nasty National clingons.

  1. The link to AAAP’s BENEFICIARY RIGHTS BOOKLET appears not to be working.

As for this new report, it will be very interesting, I am sure.

Meanwhile, we were sold endless spin during the National led governments of nine years, about their ‘success’ in getting people off benefits and allegedly into work. Also did MSD hold back OIA requested info for years, until they finally had to release the damning figures showing how unsuccessful ‘MHES’ (Mental Health Employment Services trials) had actually been.

Only after the Ombudsman was involved, did more info come out:

  2. This all makes my blood boil and I see the impact of inadequate welfare provision on the families and children of friends – especially single mothers – in the relatively deprived area in which I live. It’s in my face every day and I know I am only one divorce or illness away from the same fate….

It seems to me though that “fiscal responsibility” aka austerity is at the heart of all this. The continued obsession with fiscal surpluses and reducing public debt (public financial masochism in a way) means the government doesn’t adequately invest in our families and children and in increasing demand and growth in general.

If progressive economists could counter this austerity/debt narrative better we could get a lot further with this Labour Green NZ First coalition. They need some theory that can back up the decision to spend.

  3. Bill Birch will be pleased, he got his zero wage and patronising charity economy. I don’t know if Joe Kiwi is so happy knowing this is his she’ll be right future though.
