  1. Too many bloody dumb naive NZ ders fell for Nationals bullshit again the same could be said for them advocating for localism and yet they are bullying local councils when they (the government) are very poor economic managers themselves. The COC government need to look in the mirror.

    1. Yep, they all fell into Nationals trap. If you tell enough lies in policy announcement enough sheep will fall for it. Less than 40 % of the country were thick enough to fall for it and because of that we ended up with extremist coalition partners and thus an extremist government. But we can only hope the damage done in less than twelve months won’t be enough for a Labour lead government to undo. By the way, the lie on 500 extra police should have lead to his sacking.

      1. Well if you remember he said he would step down if he did not get those 500 extra police in the first 2 years .His two years is up and he is still there so another lie .

  2. National actually played the race card now we have the greedy sorted ones trying to gobble up what is left, they are like vultures picking the eyes out of their prey. Sickening really that so many NZers are so politically naive and stupid, and in the meantime we all have to suffer, all but the sorted ones.

  4. Somebody was always going to pay for the huge backlog of delayed water infrastructure.

And there were only three options: today’s ratepayers, future water users (thru charges), or future ratepayers (thru repaying water entity or council borrowing).

It’s great that the taxpayer is not on the hook to bail-out the feckless councils (like Wellington) that never invested in their own infra.

    1. Ada the taxpayer is going to pay for it. It would be delusional to think otherwise. Three waters was about making it cheaper overall.

      1. Ada your naive comments is exactly what I was referring to. Now capping rates will also downgrade councils credit ratings that’s what standards an poor said. People got sucked into maaaaaris are stealing the water that nobody owns but councils can sell cheap permits. So we are buying our own water back. Yes Wellington councils didn’t invest in pipes but how far back do we go to lay the blame. This is not the first time our elderly haven’t been able to afford their rates this has happened before in Karori.
The current government is over controlling they want to privatize water and other essential utilities that we need to keep in public hands. Too many New Zealanders jumped at the tax cuts yet they gave with one hand and took more with the other. People need to wise the fuck up and stop thinking of themselves as short term ill thought out solutions are hurting too many people.

        1. I can summarise your post for you: ‘don’t make me pay, make somebody else pay for me.’

      2. Why will any government bail out the local councillor wastrels? They are the ones responsible.
Try telling that to Aucklanders who are already paying for WaterCare.

It not like any future government is going to have any spare cash after paying for NZ Super.

        1. Three waters wasn’t a government bail out at all. It was about using scale to access cheaper borrowing rates. I am an Auckland taxpayer and I for one do not want see water infrastructure “go down the toilet” through out the country. It can only be detrimental to us all.

        2. Yes, Ada and soon you will be paying more charges to drive on your roads while being watched by big brother and you voted for this government so suck it up.

  5. More profit for the finance industry under Nationals plan, so of course that was their choice. Evidently, it’s not called corruption when your supporters gain from the decision.

  6. The COC WILL BE LOOKING AT SELLING THE WATER NOW THAT THE PAKEHAB HAVE STOLEN IT .It will be on the block asap after the next election if they get elected along with rail and the ferries and AIR NZ

  7. Ah yes, iwi would have managed NZ’s water soooo much more efficiently than local bodies. Because of … te mana o te wai. Or something.

    1. You do realise there is a management layer between the board and operations and a shareholder association to hold the board to account – duh! A flat structure between the shareholders and operations would be best but the West is forever captured by the two useless layers of ego in between.

    2. The irony is we just don’t know Pope but somehow with your sarcastic remark you lost the reality of the situation, ie National don’t have a fucking clue because they’ve done nothing.

  8. The problem: How to finance new water pipes for towns and cities at lowest cost. The answer to borrow at central govt rates or use sovereign credit.

Labour: We can apply govt interest rates and Maoriwash this for our maori caucus and semi-privatise water for Maori mates.

National: Lets make this a finance problem for local government so ratepayers complain and then we can privatise it for Our mates.

  9. Yes, Ada and soon you will be paying more charges to drive on your roads while being watched by big brother and you voted for this government so suck it up.
