Defence department officials told senators there was “no impediment” to submarines armed with nuclear weapons visiting Australia, insisting that any such visit would not breach Australian or international law.

Despite China’s declarations of No First Use, NFU – in the event of armed conflict with the US, PLA strategy allows a nuclear response to any attack on Mainland China, especially if modern conventional weapons that approach the destructive power of nuclear weapons are used.
